I have deleted a folder in error which includes sub-folders with important information - how can I retrieve the deleted folder ?

Presumably as you have “important” information in folders in eMC you will have been
making regular Backups.
The easiest thing to do is to restore a Backup made before the error was made.
Menu ->File -Restore → simply select and Restore a Backup made before the error
This will put your eMC installation back to a state before the deletion error.

Apart from restoring an eM Client backup as @skybat already advised, if the folder was under an eg: IMAP, Exchange, Office 365, or iCloud type account (non POP), just go into your Trash / Bin folder under your email account in eM Client and drag or move it back to where it was.
