How do you retrieve an individual email from an emClient backup, short of doing a complete restore of the backup?
There is a way to retrieve selected data from the backup:
-
Disconnect the computer from the Internet. This is important!
-
Go to Menu > Settings > General > Backup. Disable Periodic Backup if it is selected and click on OK.
-
Make a backup using Menu > Backup, so we can come back to the current database later.
-
Restore the old backup that has the data you want to retrieve.
-
For a single email, just right-click in the message body and choose Save As, which will create an eml file on your disk for that message.
-
Restore the backup made in step 3.
-
Reconnect to the Internet.
-
Drag the eml file from Explorer back into the folder in eM Client.
Thank you for these instructions…
While great that it’s possible, this method is both incredibly cumbersome & dangerous (if say, you forget to back up first, or accidentally re-connect to the internet while using the backup).
Considering how easy it is to accidentally SHIFT-delete an email and then realize “Oh, I need that one after alll”, eM Client definitely needs a “Browse Backup” or “Temporarily Mount Backup” feature to view, restore, or export individual backup items.
Consider this a feature request!
I agree, there needs to be an easier way of viewing the backups. Especially for users who are not that technical.
