Retrieval using the IMAP4 protocol failed for the following message: 72316

For the past couple of weeks I’ve experienced an error which creates a calendar entry and automatically places the message below in Trash.

I had 117 such messages yesterday each of which had a unique message number, and some of them received up to 6 times in a single minute. All created their own calendar entry.

The messages read as follows

Retrieval using the IMAP4 protocol failed for the following message: 294015
The server couldn’t retrieve the following message:
Subject: " "
From: “xxxxx xxxxxx” (“/O=FIRST ORGANIZATION/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP(FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=000118E74C497512”)
Sent date: 1/25/2026 11:24:39 AM
The message hasn’t been deleted. You might be able to view it using either Outlook or Outlook Web App. You can also contact the sender to find out what the message says."

My MS Outlook Classic 2019 client reports that these messages originate from a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 account but I’ve no idea where they are coming from or how to stop them.

I do not know whether EM Client is creating the error, placing the messages into Trash which are then synced to Outlook Classic.
