Computer crashed, reinstalling eM but have lost my folders, all calendar data !!!.
Did a backup of personal files a while ago.
Can anyone tell me which file from my backup I should copy into the new installation?
Should I be looking at the “archive” file?
Thanks
You need the complete C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ folder.
If it was backed up using an incremental or differential backup, it will be useless though. The database needs to be backed up as a single complete snapshot of that folder while eM Client is closed.
I had configured eM to store, not on C: (in case of a crash), but on a separate disk. Those file I have copied onto a USB backup. This is what I have:
Can any of it help me??
Yes, you need that eM Client folder. That is the database. You copy it to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\ so you end up with C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client. You may have to enable hidden items in Explorer to get there. Then start eM Client.
The 2 Local Folders folder is not part of the eM Client database though. You should delete it.
Much appreciate the help.
Currently reinstalling Win 10 !!
(communicating on laptop, the desktop is the one that crashed)
The “2 Local Folders” is saved from a previous reinstall of eM.
Was afraid to lose data !
Did as you suggest but still missing folders.
I see in the eM file that there is an archive, Can I use this to restore my data?
You need the full database folder from the time you made the copy, and eM Client needs to have been closed when you made the copy. If it is missing files or folders, it will be broken, so you won’t see all the data in the application.
I deleted the C: eM folder (app data…)
I then copied into that path, as you sugested, the complete eM folder that I had saved as a backup, with eM closed.
Does it matter when I make my account?
In the folder “backup” I have “Local Folders” containing all sort of data, some files at 0.8GB !!
How can I get eM to access these ?

I have the full database folder.
It was copied in total and I have placed it where it should be.
Within the complete database folder there exists a folder called “archive” and in that folder there is one called “backup” and within that folder there is one called
“Local Folders” containing all sort of data, some files at 0.8GB !!
Obviously the data I need is there and available.

No, there are no folders within the Archive folder. There should be about 20 or so files like this, or at least the 7 dat files, and that is all:
Definitely there shouldn’t be a backup folder in the Archive.
Your copy of the database is broken, so you won’t see all the data in the application.
As your archive folder doesn’t appear to have the correct contents, see if there is then any recent backup.zip files in your “Documents\eM Client” profile folder on your backup drive.
As you may have previously setup automatic periodic backups in eM Client, and if they are there, you can then restore “the latest recent dated backup” by copying that back to your new profile Documents\eM Client folder, and then restore that in eM Client via the “Menu / File / Restore” option.
Thanks for the suggestion - we are on the same wavelength.
That’s exactly what I did and I now have the data, only to the date of the backup but better than nothing.
Problem solved.
