Repeated Password Prompt in eM Client After SmarterMail 8930 Upgrade

I am experiencing an issue with eM Client version 8, where it repeatedly prompts me for my password. This started happening after we upgraded our SmarterMail server to version 8930 last night. Despite entering the correct credentials, the pop-up asking for the password keeps reappearing.

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps, but the issue persists:

  1. Checked the account settings in eM Client to ensure the username and password are correct.
  2. Verified that the IMAP and SMTP server settings are accurate, and SSL/TLS encryption is enabled.
  3. Reviewed SmarterMail’s authentication settings, as well as any changes made after the upgrade.
  4. Attempted to remove and re-add the account in eM Client, but the issue remains.

Could you please assist me in resolving this issue? I would appreciate any guidance or recommendations you can provide.

Thank you for your support.

This started happening after we upgraded our SmarterMail server to version 8930 last night. Despite entering the correct credentials, the pop-up asking for the password keeps reappearing.

Firstly make sure you can login ok to your Smartermail webmail page ok via a browser, just incase the update has caused a server login mail problem. So double-check your webmail works.

Also have to tried removing and readding your Smarter mail account “via the automatic account wizard” where could be eg: the updated Smartermail server “now supports OAuth authentication” and no longer uses a legacy name and password. I would speak to your mail server tech support staff “to check if it has”, where could be now like eg: Microsoft and Google mail servers who now don’t allow legacy usernames and passwords & have gone OAuth.

I see the recent eM Client V9 and V10 versions, they have updated authentication for Smartermail servers, and the eM Client support page for Smartermail does appear to setup via the automatic account wizard as per the following link.

Now if the Smartermail server does still support logging in via a legacy username and password, “update what your incoming and outgoing server address, port and security policy is” so we can see them if there is any obvious errors.

Also “what version of eM Client are you running” , as could be you might also have an older or outdated version which needs to be updated.
