Repeated MailExceptions.OperationException exception

Hi, I’m new to eM Client, and I’m using it to access an Exchange account via EAS. Though the account seems basically working, I repeatedly get Repeated MailExceptions.OperationException in the sync log, with no further information as to what to do or what may cause the problem.

I’ve attached the image of the log window:

Could you please help identifying the root cause of the issue and the way to get rid off it?

Kind regards.
Gus

Hi Gus, eM Client does not support Exchange synchronization over ActiveSync (EAS) but only through the Exchange Web Services protocol or IMAP. The error being thrown in eM Client seems to be thrown by a Hotmail / Live / Outlook.com account using AirSync, do you have such account setup in eM Client?

When is the error thrown, can you see it on startup or during a standard synchronization process?

Thank you,
Paul

Hi Paul,

It’s a corporate Exchange server, which I cannot access using Outlook 2013, no matter the protocol I select, but which I can easily access from Windows Phone and Android, by adding a new Exchange account. I’m using the mobile address of the Exchange server, specified for mobile connections. Webmail access is also supported, but is disabled for me. To put it all, I’m then not sure if the protocol is AES or Web Services, if WS can exist without enabling webmail access, it can be the WS protocol as well.

It’s shown during the standard sync process, however it seems to be a bit sporadic, or bound to performing such actions, such as marking an email as read. I’ll try to monitor it more closely to see if the errors are shown when only downloading new items or on startup.

Hi again Gus, the server address for ActiveSync is different than for EWS, please contact your network administrator in order to get the recommended settings for Exchange Web Services, or try to setup the account using automatic setup where, if your auto discover preferences on the server are setup correctly, you should be able to setup the Exchange account automatically using your email address and password only.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Will try, Paul, thanks for the response.

Hi Paul,

I’m afraid I didn’t emphasize it sufficiently that mail exchange basically works, whatever the protocol is. I mean I can download all my messages, and I can also send messages, in spite of the error messages.

It is suspected, however, that state changes such as marking an email as read in emClient, are not propagated to the server, and other clients still show those unread or uncategorized, or whatever action was not propagated.

Does it make a difference in your opinion as to what the error may be caused by?

Hi Gus, as I suggested previously, the error submitted to us here on the forum is not regarding an exchange account, AirSync can not be used for an Exchange setup in eM client. So my question is, are you having any issues with the account using AirSync in eM client?

Maybe you’ve mistaken a Hotmail/Outlook.com account for an Exchange account, if so it is possible your other devices are using a different protocol to synchronize your items (pop3) and thus can not sync the read/unread state as POP3 only downloads new unread email to your client.

Regards,
Paul

Paul, beleive me, it is an Exchange 2010 or 2013 server operated by a corporation. From domain-joined computers, auto config in Outlook works perfect. Webmail is also accessible, however it is protected by Microsoft Forefront gateway so I cannot currently use it.

Is there a way to find out what protocol emClient actually uses? I don’t think it’s POP3, since I do not see the usual POP3 settings, and the contacts and calendar items are also synching, which is, AFAIK, not supported by POP3, and neither by IMAP.

Can you please navigate to Tools > Accounts, and make a screenshot of your account setup from this window, please make a screenshot of your Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings tabs.

The log above is synchronizing your account through AirSync so either the account is incorrectly setup or this error is shown for another account you might have setup in eM Client. eM Client can not synchronize an Exchange account through AirSync, the application does not have such capability.

Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Is there a way to send you a private message? I could only post the screenshots here after scrabbling sensitive data shown on them, but at the end you won’t see much valuable information on those images but the names of the fields the forms contain—and which you already know well.

Hi, yes, send the screenshots to my email, [email protected] with a reference link to this forum topic.

Thank you,
Paul

Hi again Gus, thank you for the received screenshot, unfortunately this confirms my suspicion, your account is setup as an Outlook.com account using AirSync, this is not supported.

You can not use your Exchange account using ActiveSync or AirSync. To setup the account as Exchange, please use the Exchange setup in eM Client. Navigate to Tools > Accounts > New account > Mail, and select Exchange, proceed with the steps to setup the account and you should be able to synchronize your items properly with the server.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Thanks for your efforts, Paul.
