I wish there was an option that when you install eM Client it could detect old files in Windows.old and import them during installation.
If you reset Windows as new or do a clean install of Windows, you can easily restore eM Client.
Just regularly backup eM Client either via the automatic periodic backup via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Backup”, or manually via clicking “Menu / Backup”.
Either way, you will then have dated backup zip files in your “Documents / eM Client” folder. So just make sure you copy your Documents folder to another internal hard-disk or external drive before resetting or clean installing Windows.
Then once Windows is going again, reinstall eM Client and skip the setup wizard, and then put your eM Client backup.zip files in the Documents / eM Client folder and then restore via “Menu / File / Restore”. It will then be exactly as it was.
Note: If you have already been backing up eM Client, then you might already have the backup.zip files in your Windows.old Documents folder to then restore in your new Windows user Profile.
Hi,
When you say backup - you do mean eM Client backup - not regular Windows backup - correct?
That’s exactly the reason why I have started this post…
I have eM Client files - why can’t i use them?
E.g., in Thunderbird case i can simply copy content of my old “profile” folder to a new one - and that’s it - i do not need to ask Thunderbird to “backup” - not even sure whether they have such option.
It was just a suggestion - folks do Windows reset a lot these days - and they have all their files - yes - in different place - so what?
I simply thought to make a good suggestion for the future.
Yes, thanks for the tip - i will create eM client backup next time…
eM Client installer has many options from where to import the data when it installs eM client - why not this one - we found the old eM Client files - do you want to import them?
Yes eM Client backup which is whats reccomended.

Yes if you don’t have an eM Client backup in your Documents / eM Client folder, then you can also “copy the complete eM Client hidden mail database folder contents” from your user profile, and then replace a new Windows installation eM Client hidden mail database folder with your backed up one, which will then also get you quickly back to where you were before.
Note:- Make sure eM Client is closed before you copy and replace the below folder.
“Hidden mail database folder Windows”
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”
But its much better / easier to use the builtin eM Client backup & restore.
Thank you!
