Since the recent update to version 8.1.876 (234bb7a) - all new mail that I receive has zero margin on the left handside when you open and read it. It makes the text really hard to read as there is no space at all.
I can’t find the setting to change it back. Any ideas?

Sometimes with visual issues after an update, it is best to uninstall eM Client (making sure not to delete the database directory when asked) and then download from the Release History install it again.
If you do not delete your database directory during the uninstall, all your settings and data will still be there after the install. If in doubt, make a backup using Menu > Backup before the uninstall.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled from the release history and no difference. Any other steps I could look at do you think? It’s really bugging me!

To see if it is something to do with your database, or unintentionally affected by some other setting, you could open eM Client with a blank database, add your email account, and without changing any settings, see if there is a difference.
To do that go to Menu > Settings > General > Storage, and make a note of the current database location. Then select a different location and restart eM Client. Add your email account and see if there is any difference.
If there is no difference and you want to go back to your original database, go to Menu > Settings > General > Storage and change the location back to the original. Restart eM Client.
It is a chore, but could determine where the issue is.
Otherwise, if you have a Pro License you can open a support ticket directly with eM Client.
That’s really helpful - thanks Gary. I’ve done that and it appears to be a problem with the theme. I’ve always used the dark theme, but have emails displayed black on white background. The dark theme has started putting a black bar down the lefthandside which removes the ‘margin’ entirely. Doesn’t happen on the right and didn’t happen on the left until the recent update. I’ll try and play with the theme editor and see if it can be edited. Thanks again.
Solved - used theme editor to change the ‘message panel background’ colour to match the message colour and that provides a margin. Thanks.
That’s fine and dandy, but I don’t want the entire message background to be the same color as the message itself. Only the message box. The box itself needs the margin. Any ideas?
I found a solution…well, more of a work around. I disabled conversational emails…I now have my margin. Works for me. I never got into the conversational format of managing emails anyway…so no harm no foul.

this is resolved in upcoming version 9. There is always a quick toggle button between light and dark view for a specific message. You can try the beta 9 here: www.emclient.com/beta.
