Quickfile

First, Congratulations on building such feature rich client.IMO beats outlook in functionality and thunderbird in looks.
I was wondering if there is a plan to add a “quickfile” feature to allow the user to quickly file/move a message to any folder ( preferably via keyboard)
Examples of this functionality are:
Apple Mail: http://msgfiler.com/
Thunderbird: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/nostalgy/
Outlook: http://www.techhit.com/SimplyFile/

If not, is it possible for 3rd-party developers to create addons ?

Hi Vish,
thank you for contributing your idea to the forum, this feature is indeed not implemented.

Creating addons for eM Client is also not possible.

Olivia

I brought this up a year ago. Not having an automated way to quickly file emails in their appropriate folders after dealing with them is the ONLY thing keeping me from abandoning Outlook. But i really need this functionality, because without it the time it takes to file email is just too burdensome.

A little update… I decided to go ahead an install em Client anyway to see if i could find an efficient way to file done-with emails.

While it’s not anywhere nnear as efficient as Simply File for Outlook, here is my workaround. I am using this for frequent contacts, and filing the one-offs manually.

For sent email it’s fairly simple, although time consuming - set up a filter for each contact to move emails from the Sent folder to contact-specific folders.

For received emails it’s not as easy. What i am doing is setting a category called ‘Filed’ and then copying emails to the appropriate contact-specific folders. Then after dealing with an email in the inbox, if it is already flagged as filed i can just delete the inbox copy - much faster than looking for the right place to file it.

This makes em Client marginally workable for me now, although i’m still hoping that one day i’ll find an suggested category choices at the top of the move folder choices, which would be based on where i last filed something from that sender or recipient.

Don’t get me wrong… i think em Client is an excellent piece of software that is probably the best email client available. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be even better. I am looking forward to the day when the user interface will be a bit more polished, especially higher contrast, better visual separation of panels and more visual reference points.

Hello Shanna,
thank you for sharing your idea for a workaround.
I\m glad to hear that you like eM Client and we do try our best to improve it, though going through the things our users still miss and implementing these new features can be a very time-consuming process.
Even if the Quick File function is not planned yet, I can tell you there are some big changes coming in the upcoming version 7, which has a completely new UI.

Thank you for your patience.

Olivia
