comctl32.dll

Hi, unfortunately this seems to be a hard drive issue, do you have the application and the database saved in the default folder or did you by any chance move the directory to an external hard drive?

Thank you,
Paul.

No. My HDD crashed and I just re-installed windows and eM Client onto a new SSD

Did you run the chkdsk.exe tool as the error is suggesting?

Thank you,
Paul.

Thanks for your help.
Your first comment jogged me to check
On my previous installation I had pointed my database to a data HD rather than my C:/ drive.
I assumed that re-installing on a new clean windows SSD that eM Client would create a new database
But for some reason the new install seemed to remember (HOW)
All I did was copy my eM Client folder back from the data drive onto the C:/ drive in my user account and it all worked perfectly
Very strange though - a new c:/ drive with new windows OS and new eM client should create a new database???

Not really sure how you’ve moved the data, but I’m glad all works fine now, let us know if you come across any other issues or questions, we’ll be happy to help.

Thank you,
Paul.

Paul,
I will explain. Others may be interested
On my previous install (because I had a small SSD as my C: drive), I set my Storage to my d: drive in eM Client settings ( Tools-Settings-General-Storage…) so all the data etc didn’t stay on the C: drive
Then my C: drive crashed and I couldn’t re-boot but the data was still on my D: drive.
I had another SSD that I had just purchased for video work but decided to use this as my new C: drive.
So,  I removed the crapped out SSD and installed the new SSD and re-installed windows (7). I then re-installed all other software including eM Client.
I would have assumed that a totally new clean install on a totally new clean SSD drive would have created a new start up database for eM Client. But it didn’t or for some reason the app didn’t recognise it. - I just can’t explain why for this one???
After your prompt I went to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ and found a new database but as I said the app wasn’t recognising it.
I then went to my D: drive and copied my previous “eM Client” database folder back to the above C: directory and restarted eM Client and it all worked.  eM Client started up with the old database restored.
I then re-pointed eM Client to my D: drive for storage  and all works fine.
I also (be careful here) went back to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eM Client folder and deleted the large database files (over 30GB including attachments) BUT left the smaller files in particular LEAVE THE  “settings.xml” file.
So, now it is back running with all large storage data going to my D: drive where it should go (or another if you have it)
Perhaps eM Client should provide the option in a future re-incarnation to store data on another drive as an install feature.
Anyone who runs a computer seriously shouldn’t store their data on their OS drive.

Thank you for the suggestion, the installation folder is set for your program files folder, the database directory can be stored on other disks by changing the storage settings in Tools. So you should be able to keep your data separated from your OS drive.

Thank you for sharing your solution, as mentioned previously let us know if you come across any other issues or questions.

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Peter,

Perhaps eM Client should provide the option in a future re-incarnation to store data on another drive as an install feature.

Anyone who runs a computer seriously shouldn’t store their data on their OS drive.

I totally agree.
