Outlook.com VersionNotSupported error

Yesterday I started receiving an error emClient MacOs, version 10.4.4867 (a1d5549) that says
[email protected] [AirSync] Synchronization error (VersionNotSupported). As far as I can tell I still am receiving email. I don’t see anything in the log to further explain it.

What does this mean and what do I do to fix it?

That VersionNotSupported error in eM Client usually means the app is trying to sync with Microsoft Outlook using an outdated or mismatched AirSync protocol, even though mail still comes through. The easiest fix is to remove and re-add your Outlook account using the automatic setup (not manual AirSync), or switch it to Exchange/Office 365 so it uses the correct protocol. If it keeps happening, just update eM Client to the latest version since they often patch these compatibility issues.

Microsoft changed something on their backend servers and stopped supporting ActiveSync 14.0 for some users. We started testing an update that would fallback to using the version 16.1 that is advertised by the Outlook servers, but at the moment no public builds are available.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Wait for new eM Client update or delete and re-add. I trust if I do the second I won’t lose any info. This account has several special folders and lots of history.

Have to use your webmail for now till new update and I wouldn’t remove any accounts atm. If you need to do that support will advise in this thread.

Yes you don’t normally loose any eM Client data when upgrading to a later version from my own experience over the years.

However to be on the safe side when the next public build fix for this issue is available, suggest to “first make a manual backup” via “Menu / Backup” if you don’t already do automatic periodic backups via Settings so you can then easily restore if needed later.

That error usually means the Exchange ActiveSync version your eM Client is trying to use isn’t fully supported by Outlook’s servers anymore, even though basic email still works. The easiest fix is to update eM Client to the latest version and, if the issue persists, remove and re-add the account using the recommended settings. Also double check your account security settings on Outlook, since outdated sync methods can sometimes get partially blocked.

We are working on a hot fix. Internally we already have it implemented and we should be ready to release a version with the fix in a few days at latest.
