• If I disable IMAP and SMTP so only AirSync remains, Calendar and Contacts sync, but Mail never appears in the sidebar and no folders download
• If I leave IMAP and SMTP enabled, the account shows up but IMAP keeps throwing the same error repeatedly
• Mail → Exchange only asks for email, username, and password with no server field, and Outlook.com rejects the credentials even after a password reset
• I understand Microsoft deprecated basic authentication for consumer accounts, so manual Exchange with a password likely cannot work
Current state:
Calendar syncs through AirSync
Mail does not sync at all through AirSync
IMAP shows “User is authenticated but not connected”
Question:
What is the correct way to get an Outlook.com account to sync Mail, Calendar, and Contacts in the current eM Client without relying on IMAP
Is there a known workaround or known bug when Outlook.com is added that prevents Mail from downloading via AirSync
If you have an outlook.com account you add your mail account in eM Client via the Add Account “Automatic account wizard” and not manually setup your account.
Also near the end of the wizard make sure you press allow to give eM Client access to your Outlook mailbox which then uses and OAuth passwordless login. That sets up an IMAP or Exchange account as per the eM Client online documentation link further down this post.
If that doesn’t authenticate at the end of the wizard, “try setting a differant browser as the default” and then close and reopen eM Client. If it does authenticate ok but wont send and receive email, sometimes eg: optionally installed firewall / security programs or optionally installed antivirus programs or vpns can interfere. So if you have anything like that optionally installed other than what comes default with your OS, try completely disabling those to test in case of interference.

You need IMAP and SMTP to be able to send and receive mail with an Outlook.com personal type account.
If you have an Exchange account and the automatic account wizard fails due to you eg: dont use a OAuth password-less token etc, then yes go to “Add Account / Mail” and click on Exchange to manually setup your account. The server address normally appears after the username and password. But most Outlook exchange accounts do setup ok via the wizard automatically.
BUT it does pull over my calander from Outlook. eM Client even appears when I look in my Microsoft settings. When I try Exchange, it says the server was found but authentication failed.
I was looking to test this as an alternative to Outlook desktop client but I can’t get the email to work either. We have IMAP disabled as a company for security. I go through the add account wizard. Sign in and 2fa in the browser but then it is only trying to sync with IMAP. So currently I am unable to even try it.
