Outlook Account Authentication Issue

Issue
I recently noticed that my Windows application for eM Client (ver 10.1.4588) was unable to synchronize with Outlook servers. In an attempt to troubleshoot the issue, I removed and attempted to re-add the account, without success. The issue appears to be with the authentication mechanism. Using the automatic method setup, I can get to the final step, but it hangs after granting permissions to eM Client from my Outlook account in the pop-up browser window. After some time, I am presented with an error message, presumably from an authentication timeout.

My Attempts to Resolve the Issue

  1. Re-add the account through the automatic setup
  2. Re-add the account manually specifying Outlook server details
  3. Revoked eM Clients oAuth access to my Outlook prior to attempting to re-adding the account
  4. Reinstalled eM Client

Please advise on a fix for this issue.

There was an error obtaining credentials via OAuth

This is not normally an eM Client issue.

I would go back into your Outlook account again online via your browser and “remove the eM Client OAuth token” and then close eM Client and try “setting another browser as the default”.Then reopen eM Client and try adding the account again via the “automatic account wizard”.

Failing that, try uninstalling eM Client and “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard and then reinstall eM Client either from the Windows Store or direct from the Release history page (depending on where you originally downloaded it from).

If that still fails, then you might have a possible eg: corrupted database. So next “try closing eM Client” and then “renaming the following hidden database folder” below to eg: eM Client-Old to test if that’s the issue. Then reopen eM Client and setup via the automatic account wizard new.

(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)

“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

Finally if that still fails to authenticate even with a new database, then sometimes eg: optionally installed programs can sometimes interfere with authentication such as “optionally installed firewall / security programs”, or “optionally installed antivirus programs”, or “VPNs”. So if you have anything like that installed “other than what comes default with Windows” then try completely disabling those to test.
