Option to hide message preview using ESC key

When I don’t want to keep an email preview visible, I need to select the date dropdown such as “Today”, “Yesterday” or “2 Weeks Ago” dropdowns.

As a user coming from the now deprecated Mail & Calendar app, pressing the ESC key to hide the email preview was a very nice feature so I don’t have to leave a preview always open.

Is there an option to enable this setting in eM Client or hasn’t it been implemented?

You would normally either just “disable the preview pane” via the menu or settings and then only preview the email when it’s opened in a separate window as a lot of users do.

Or alternatively you could try eg: creating a custom shortcut to disable the preview pane that might work as per the below suggestion.

But either way “would turn the preview off for all emails in the message list until opened”, and not just the highlighted one your on.

“Disable preview via Menu”

  1. Go to “Menu / View / Layout”.
  2. Select Messages panel off”.
  3. Alternatively, go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Appearance / Layout” and set the message panel to off.

“Create a Custom Shortcut”

  1. Go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Shortcuts”.
  2. Search for “Layout” or the specific menu command to toggle the pane.
  3. Assign a key combination (e.g., a custom Ctrl+Alt+P combination).
