Current multi-window design of eM Client makes no sense.
Is not tabbed (in 2024 where most of programs uses tabs and first tabbed email client was released in 90s; browsers beomes tabbed from early versions of Opera years ago). But ok, separate windows may be beneficial and useful too. But they’re not actually, because they can block main window!
When I want to edit rules by adding new words/sentences to filter list, I must click few times to do that and then I can paste text. I cannot copy another text from any email, because this window blocks other windows and must be closed before I can click on the main window.
Solution, if creating TRULY independent windows is too difficult, could be replacing single line text field with textbox, where I can paste (previously copied to some text editor) multiple words/sentences line by line.
Yes some mail clients like the latest Thunderbird has Tabs, but you don’t need to have Tabs as it can be also done using multiple windows.
You can “right click on the eM Client icon” on the taskbar or dockbar and open a new specific separate window for mail, calendar etc. You can also open a whole new eM Client GUI.
Then just line them up side by side or underneath whichever you prefer.
You can also drag stuff between the windows.
However if right clicking opening a second window doesn’t work for you, then there is an existing suggestion you can vote for to Open in Tab for Mail on the Sleekplan Share ideas & voting page.
You probably do not read my post.
The point is that I CAN’T do what I described because windows are NOT intependent (not always). Some of them blocks eM Client so I can’t just copy anything from main window. My statement about tabs was only incidental, not the main reason I wrote my post. My post is about - when you made SEPARATE windows instead of tabs, then MADE THEM INDEPENDENT, not dependent! Except maybe some dialog boxes that needs to be clicked, this windows what I show in my image should be independent.
I wrote everything pretty clear. I hope it would be clear also if you read my whole post, not only beginning about tabs.
And btw. Eudora from 90s had tabs, not only “latest Thunderbird”. Even new Notepad have tabs. And every browser now. Is not that is something unusual. It’s most convenient way to use some programs. Like - I can open 10 various emails and keep them in the same screen without opening 10 separate windows. Browser developers understood this years ago.
Yes i read your posts and I can do that “using the multiple eM Client window instances” New Window option via right click on the eM Client Icon on the Taskbar or Dockbar as i described previously using the latest eM Client V9 & V10. I regularly copy stuff between EMC instances.
I am talking about truly independent, multitasking windows, not about some workarounds and using copies of the same program.
I bet that years ago, when Opera introduces tabs for the first time, people also says "oh, I can do the same using 20 copies of browser, all you need is to click menu and “new window”.
Everything can be done in different ways - some of them are good, some are just not. Opening second instance of email client only for keeping single small window active and open, is not the best way to do this task.
I am talking about truly independent, multitasking windows, not about some workarounds and using copies of the same program.
Thats what the right click options were designed to do using eM Client. Works for me just fine.
But as that doesn’t suit you and “you obviously only want to use Tabs”, then put your suggestion on the Sleekplan page via the exiting idea link in my previous post above.
Ok, the technical term for ‘independent’ windows is: Non-modal - and that’s easy to implement.
And I agree, that is a great idea. Windows BLOCKING the user interface are so ‘last century’.
