Moving to Windows 11

I’m trying to transfer my eM Client account from a windows 10 to a windows 11 computer. New computer automatically found a backup - not the most recent backup but from December 2024, so not terrible. The issue is that eM Client is now downloading every email I’ve received since I bought the program!! Every deleted email, every junk email that was deleted years ago. How can I get it to stop? I just want to migrate what I see on the old computer to the new computer. If it matters - I’m using emails from comcast accounts. Any help appreciated!

That sounds like the backup didn’t work properly as the new changes from your mail server accounts “should be only from December onwards” and prior to that "should be already there and also “usually cached as well”.

Do you have any other eM Client backups “older or newer” that are a eg: larger backup file size which would usually mean “it had more stored mail in it”. If you do, try coping that backup.zip file to the new computer “Documents / eM Client” folder and then try restoring that file “Menu / File / Restore”.

Now if no eM Client Win 10 backups make any difference, then (close eM Client on the new Win 11 computer), and go to the following eM Client Hidden database folder below and “Delete everything in it”.

(Hidden database folder Windows)
C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\eM Client

Then (on your old computer), “copy that complete folder contents” and paste that “in the new eM Client hidden database folder”. Then reopen eM Client on the new computer and it should be then exactly as your old Win 10 computer was.

Note: The above presumes you have exactly the same or very close same version of eM Client.

Thank you Cyberzork! This is super helpful.
