Microsoft account (Exchange, Hotmail, Outlook, Live etc.) password requests

eM Client fully supports Exchange as advertised.

This really is off topic, but if you have specific questions about what is not working for you with your Exchange account, please open a separate topic.

For the issue discussed in this topic, we have already given a statement, and a solution. Please see the link I provided in my original comment on this topic.

Yes, because as I have said multiple times, you can no longer use a username/password with Microsoft accounts. That is because Microsoft have discontinued basic authentication. If the account is already setup using oAuth, it works as normal.

So, as you are using a username/password, which is no longer supported, please follow the link I gave in my original comment on this topic., There is an explanation of why this is happening, and a solution.

The issue is that Microsoft no longer accept basic authentication. Please see the link in my initial response to this topic which has both an explanation and link to Microsoft’s own site explaining what they are doing, as well as a solution.

It is a free personal Microsoft account… And there are multiple accounts that I manage.

The issue is on every one of those accounts and it’s clearly related to emClient since as I’m trying to explain it works with the same type of authentication in another client similar to emClient and that is Mailbird…

Also if it was because of Microsoft discontinuation of basic auth it wouldn’t work no matter how many times you tried which is again not the case…

Yes, it is because Microsoft no longer accept username and password logins. Please follow the link I gave right at the top if this topic and follow the instructions given there to resolve it.

@Gary
If so - Why other Mail Apps can handle this with EWS, but eM Client not?

Even in eM Client I’m able to receive new Mails, new Contacts, etc. If I click enough on “OK” when I’m asked for the password:

…in other Mail Apps it works whitout klicking “OK”.

And about 2FA:

If I use the Password - So the Request must have reached O365…
…even with free Mail.

App passwords are not 2FA. An app password is just a substitute for the account password, whereas 2FA means two forms of verification. So besides the oAuth token to log you into the server, you will also get a security code sent to you by email, SMS, or in the authenticator app every time you sign in on a device that isn’t trusted. In order to use 2FA with your Microsoft account in eM Client, the account needs to be setup using oAuth. It doesn’t work with basic authentication, even when basic authentication was allowed. But as you can no longer use basic authentication for Microsoft accounts anyway, your account needs to be setup with oAuth, whether you use 2FA or not.

Please follow the instructions in the link in my original reply to you, which has instructions for setting up the account with oAuth.

Sorrx - Are you developer or marketing?
App passwords are designed to bypass this 2FA.
I got the Mails from Account Team, because it seems, you can handle 2FA correctly?
Is the development of eM Client aware about our issues?
Have They tested our findings in a Lab?
Analysed the behaviour?
Are they looking for a solution?
Don’t tell me, it’s abaut the MS changes - If I click enough “OK” I get the new Maisl, Contacts, Notes, … even in em Client - While other Mail Clients do not force my attention and deliver all the canges - Without permanent Interaction.

Just over the last few days eM Client has had a window open for me to enter in my username and password for all 4 of my email accounts. I have not changed my password on any of my email accounts. The username and passwords are prepopulated in the window, all I have to do click the button and it goes away for a while. The it comes back again. Funny thing is, if I click cancel instead of OK, the mail still works. Everything still sends and receives. It’s driving my crazy.

Again, I have not changed my email passwords. They are all Microsoft email accounts (hotmail, outlook, live), they are set up with Exchange, they all work, eM Client works - it’s sending and receiving, it’s just this damn window keeps poping up.

eM CLient version: 8.2.1721
