I have been using eM Client fir years without issue. However, the client no longer shows my emails in the preview window unless I download each one manually. Any reason why?

You don’t say which version of eMC you are running, however, the first thing to do is to
check the layout of your message window here:
(in version 8 top left) ->Menu ->Settings ->Appearance ->Confirm that->
Message panel off is NOT selected ->If it is make a different choice ->Apply ->OK
