I seem to having an issue with a few emails (not all). LinkedIn is a good example, pretty much all the emails received from them do not display any content on the desktop version of the software.
If I view source I can see the content, so it’s obviously there but just not displaying.
If I select “Plain Text” I can see it but HTML doesn’t seem to display.
This is when I try and view from the “Unread” area. If I then navigate to the actual folder the emails are in I can view them in HTML !
So this only seems to be an issue with the “Unread” favourites area.
Any idea whats wrong?
It usually means there is broken code in the message.
For some issues we can provide workarounds, and incorporate those in future releases.
Can you send me a sample message that behaves like this so we can see if it is possible to work with the code? To do that right-click in the message body and choose Save As, then send the eml file to me directly on [email protected]
Sent example.
Many thanks
The message has an HTML section, but doesn’t have anything in the HTML section, so if you are displaying messages in HTML, you won’t see anything. Thunderbird displays it exactly the same, and I looked at in Gmail webmail and Outlook on the web, and they do it the same as well.
It is an error by the sender’s email application. Either there shouldn’t be an HTML section because it really is a plain text message only, or they should follow standards and provide the formatted version of the content in the HTML section.
We will investigate if there is something we can do though. In the meantime, just right-click in the body of messages like this and choose Format > Plain Text.
