I closed my google account and downloaded a 5gb mbox file.
How can I make eM Client open that mbox file?
The email address right now is in a normal hosting environment (no Gsuit anymore). I only want that file to be available offline. No need to sync it with the current email environment.
Exported .mbox files are normally meant to be imported via “Menu / File / Import” and then selecting a mail account destination to import after selecting your .mbox exported file.
Now “you may be able to select Local Folders when you get up to choosing a destination”, but if you carn’t, then you will have to import your .mbox file into a mail account folder and then once imported, drag / move those messages and message folders to “Local Folders” at the bottom left of eM Client in a folder called eg: Old Mail or Old account mail to then be available anytime.
Or you can drag / move the messages after importing “into an external .emdf data file” if you have V10 via first creating that via “Menu / Data files”. The data file appears above Local Folders and can then either be permanently mounted or opened anytime later to read those messages.
Now to avoid any synching after importing “if you can only import in a mail account” and not Local Folders, I would also disconnect your internet and then open eM Client in offline mode by either “holding down the Ctrl key before opening eM Client” or by going to “Menu / File / Work offline” and then closing and reopening eM Client. Then do the Import .mbox option via the menu.
The other way you could do it “if you carnt select local folders when importing your .mbox file”, would be eg: To again disconnect from the Internet and open eM Client in offline mode and then create a eg: dummy POP mail account via “Menu / Accounts / Add Account / Mail / Other” with any mail.whatever.com server addresses and whatever username and password you like, and “skip the diagnostic test when it fails” and finish the account wizard which will then appear in the left panel. Then import your .mbox file into that Pop account, and then once imported, drag the imported messages & message folders to a eg: Local Files Old Mail folder or the External data file Old Mail folder. Then remove the dummy POP mail account.
