You can adjust when eM Client syncs via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / General” under Synchronization.
Also to speed up reading mail if you have an eg: IMAP mail account, you can set your account to "Download messages for offline use and search in message bodies as in the below V9 and V10 Yahoo mail acct examples.
