I’ve downloaded the latest version of eM Client but when I started the program, it still asked me for the Application Startup password. I was under the impression that deleting my old eM Client I installing a new one would resolve this issue but it didn’t. I’m using Windows 11. Suggestions, please!
If you have forgotten your eM Client startup application password in Windows then see @Gary post below.
I was under the impression that deleting my old eM Client I installing a new one would resolve this issue but it didn’t.
If you uninstalled eM Client in Windows and either deleted the database when asked on the uninstall wizard or renamed the hidden database prior to uninstalling, “then you wouldn’t normally get asked for the eM Client app startup password”.
So all depends if you kept your previous mail database when you uninstalled eM Client.
OK, here’s where I stand at present. eM Client has sent me a what appears to be a new “Application Startup Password”. I have used it & it works to start eM Client. However, the startup screen is “enlarged”, i.e. much larger that the normal screen size & I’ve tried everything I know to “shrink” it to normal, but nothing works. Everything else, including Calendar, Contacts, etc. is there but with an “enlarged screen”. In addition to that issue, I’m still having issues with the proper STML settings (currently “Use Identity credentials”) which is keeping me from receiving emails! Please note that I can send & receive emails in my backup AOL.mail.

If the eM Client Application on startup is zoomed in, you may have possibly enabled the Windows OS magnifier.
To check, press the “Windows key and + key” or “Windows key and - key” to toggle the OS Magnifier size larger or smaller. Or press “Windows + Esc keys” on your keyboard to exit out of the Magnifier.
Or you may have possibly adjusted the eM Client Application item fonts sizes which can then make the GUI look zoomed in some areas. So suggest to go to “Menu / Settings / Appearance / Lists” and press the “Reset to defaults” button at the bottom right. Then press Apply and Save & Close.
Also if eM Client emails are zoomed in, click in the email body and then press the “Ctrl and + or - keys” to zoom in or out.
To reset the Zoom, click in the email body and then press the Ctrl + 0 key. Or “Right click” in the body of the email and select “Zoom / Original".
You can also click in the email body and then press the “Ctrl key & use the Mouse scroll wheel” up and down to zoom in or out on the emails.
In addition to that issue, I’m still having issues with the proper STML settings (currently “Use Identity credentials”) which is keeping me from receiving emails! Please note that I can send & receive emails in my backup AOL.mail…
What mail account are you not able to receive emails ?
Well, I have followed, or attempted to do so, your & Gary instructions on getting my eM Client back into working order but I have to confess, I’m at wits end & & willing to try just about anything! But before I delete my eM Client completely & risk losing everything, I’ll try one more time & maybe you can get my system to work again!
I suspect that all my problems began when I got a new computer & upgraded to Windows 11 & perhaps the tech that performed the transfer got something wrong, but I need to be sure that if I delete my old eM Client & start over, I can recover my old emails, contacts, & calendar entries. I checked, & I do have backups of those on another backup HD but I need to know how to transfer those to the new eM Client once I get to new eM Client installed. Let me know what you think & if there is a more effective way to do this.
OK, I used the Second Method you suggested & ALL of the files in the eM Client folder appear to have transferred. However, when I re-started eM Client, it was another larger window but said that I had an older version (which I did!), but when I clicked on the update button, it downloaded one update file. Then I received a separate small window saying “Preparing to install”. That seemed normal except that nothing happened after that and the small window stayed open! Why won’t it upgrade to the latest version?
What next? I tried closing eM Client, downloading the latest version, & received the following message: “eM Client setup ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified.”
If you have already tried rebooting your computer, then i would suggest to try clearing your Windows temp files. To do that click “Search” in the taskbar and type %temp% and press enter . Then select all and delete and then reboot your computer and try installing eM Client again.
Note:- When you delete the temp files, if you get messages eg: File/s in use, just click “Skip”.
I just saw a previous posting by Gary that may explain my problem. When I try to upload the latest eM Cient version from emclient-v10.0.3530.msi , I get an application error. Gary said earlier “MailClient.Storage.Data.DatabaseHasNewerVersionException: Data file ‘C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\eM Client/C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\Archive/folders.dat’ has version 10 but only versions up to 8 are supported”. Granted, this may have been an older posting, but the version I have currently is 9. Suggestions, please!
