Lost Gmail account / re-adding fails

Hi all,

I had connected my Gmail account for years (mail, various calendars, contacts). About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that the synchronisation was no longer working and my calendars were no longer visible. I have tried several times to add the account again, but I always get stuck in an endless loop.

  1. After entering the data in the eM Client, I click on ‘Finish’.
  2. A browser window now opens and I have to authorise access to my account. So far everything is understandable and standard. I have authorised EVERYTHING!
  3. But then NOTHING happens. The eM Client window jumps back and I have to click on ‘Finish’ again. If I do this, I am back at point 1).

Does anyone have any advice on what is going wrong here?

Thanks in advance
Axel

If you click finish and the browser then doesn’t automatically close and return back to eM Client then “try clearing your browser cache” and then close eM Client and your current browser. Then reopen eM Client again and see if that try again.

Also try toggling around your open windows incase your have a prompt to press something.

Failing that, “try setting a different browser as default” and reboot and see if that fixes it.

If that still doesn’t work, go to your Google account Third party apps, and "remove any eM Client apps in there. Then close and reopen eM Client and your browser should appear to allow eM Client again.

Lastly sometimes background resident programs can cause interference with browsers authorising such as eg: Optionally installed Firewall / Security programs. So if you have anything like that installed other than what comes default with your OS, then try completely disabling that to test.

Hi cyberzork,

unfortunately, none of these approaches has led to success. There are no “resident programs” running. It is always the same, with Google Chrome and with Edge:

  1. add gmail acount / automatic setup
  2. all services chosen (mail, calendar…)
  3. click on FINISH
  4. browser opens
  5. accounts.google.com needs permission/access for several services → all are admitted
  6. browser asks to open em Client → admitted
  7. after some seconds the browser goes to google.com and nothing else happens
  8. still the “account creation” window of eM Client is open that says FINISH (see list item 3. above)

… caught in the endless loop again.

Any other hint?

Cheers
Axel

In addition: I always had 2 Gmail accounts - one is still working with no problems/limits, the other one (unfortunately my main account) is mentioned in this thread.

Ok as you then have tried 3 different browsers and the same thing is happening, and removing the Google third party eM Client tokens made no difference, and you have no background resident programs interfering, I would next try uninstalling eM Client and if you have Windows, “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard.

Then re download “the same or later version of eM Client” from the release history page and reinstall. Then try adding your second Gmail account again and see if that fixes it. Suggest to be using the latest eM Client V9 or 10 with Google accts.

If still the same problem, uninstall eM Client again and as prev, if you have Windows “don’t delete the database”’ when asked on the uninstall wizard. Then go to the following Pc or Mac eM Client hidden database folder, and rename it to eg: eM Client-Old. Then reinstall the same or later version of eM Client via the release history page and setup both Gmail accounts as new & see if that fixes it.

(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

(Mac Hidden hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”

Now if uninstalling and reinstalling eM Client and creating a new local mail database still makes no difference, then I would try “creating a new test user admin profile” in your OS to test incase your current profile is possibly corrupted.

Lastly if a new user profile still has the same problem adding in your second Google account when you click Finish, then that could be a Gmail online account issue where you might then need to contact Google support for assistance.

Thanks a lot. I tried everything but unfortunately had no success.
I now posted the issue in the Google Help Community…

OK, Google community did not reply yet.
I have no problem setting up the Gmail account in Aqua Mail. Unfortunately this client does not support calendar and contacts as nice as eM does.
So I am still curious getting hints what to do.
