There is two ways to retrieve your complete settings and data etc you had before.
1). If you have been regularly backing up eM Client either automatically via “Settings / General / Backup” or manually been backing up via “Menu / Backup” on your old computer and have a copy of that on another internal or external drive, then you will have dated backup.zip files by default in your user profile “Documents / eM Client” folder (unless you changed the location) which you can restore via “Menu / File / Restore”. Once restored it will be exactly as before. Any new emails since the backup will update when eM Client connects.
Or
2). If you haven’t been previously backing up eM Client, but have a backup of your OS User Profile” on another internal or external drive”, then you would first close eM Client and then go to the following hidden database folder below on your backup drive and “copy the complete hidden folder contents” and then “replace your current C drive eM Client hidden database folder contents”. Then reopen eM Client and it will be exactly the same as before. Any new emails since the backup will update when eM Client next connects.
(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”
(Mac Hidden hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”
1/ The email account will not sync with the server. Emails will download, but none of the directories will, and there are over 50 directories. So now I have over 8000 emails in my inbox
If you just manually setup your account again with 8000 emails and have a lot of fIMAP folders, that can initially take sometime till all the mail and folders appear. You can see how far it has to go via clicking the dropdown on the right of Refresh and clicking “Show Operations”.
Also make sure you have the account set to Sync “All Time” so you are not limiting your mail and folders, by going to “Menu / Accounts” and then click on your account IMAP Tab and you will see the “Sync Options” part way down to adjust that..
2/ I use Tags to mark emails. None of the tags have been reinstalled, only the standard ones. I have done many backups however I fear they were on the failed C:.
If you had custom local tags setup for Mail and Calendar etc, then yes” you would need to restore either the backup.zip or your hidden database folder” to get those.
If they are Server Tags then those should normally all come back even if you manually just add the account back as long as you have one of the following - Gmail, IceWarp, Exchange, Dovecot, and Imageway accounts”.
