Can you check the IMAP settings for your account.

Go to Menu > Tools > Accounts, and click on the Hotmail IMAP tab. The port should be 993 and the security policy should be Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)

thank you Gary Curtin, done that  and still getting server failed    password required.

Maybe contact Hotmail Support and see if there is an issue with your account.
