Is PGP something I should have?

When installing eM Client it asked if I wanted PGP. Is this something that I need? I understand it’s for encryption but aren’t emails encrypted anyway?

Do I need it or is it going to complicate things?

(or take hours to work out how to use it?)

The connection between eM Client and your server should be encrypted. You can check that by going to Menu > Accounts. As long as the security polity for IMAP or SMTP is not set to do not use secure connection, it should be fine.

That is different to what PGP does. PGP (or S/MIME) will encrypt the message so only the recipient can view it after entering their password.

To find out more about PGP encryption and using it with eM Client, see our Blog page here.
