When I try setting my status as invisible in em client, my contacts report to me that I am online in gchat. Additionally, when I log into gchat, there’s a message that says “Oops! You are not invisible because you’re logged into Google Talk from another client, device, or location that doesn’t support invisibility.”.

thank you for reporting the problem. It is not currently supported, but I added it to our feature requests list.
Still waiting on this feature in the latest version.

Let me help you guys with the decision… I am going back to Thunderbird as we speak, because this is absolutely unacceptable to me. People are bothering me during work - and anyway, it is a matter of principle.
Furthermore, it is more than a little annoying - not to mention deceptive - to even offer those apparent options of “visibility” when there are NONE.
