Just uninstalled ver 9 on my laptop - including database - and want to instll ver 10. When I install ver 10n on the laptop, how do I make sure that settings from my desktop, also using ver 10, are transferred.
Thanks.

Don’t know how this may play into it, but the subscription I have is for 3 subscribers. This would be the 2nd installation.

When you install / upgrade to V10, your exiting database and all settings will be retained. Just “close eM Client before upgrading” and also before upgrading, make a manual backup via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via clicking the dropdown on the right of Refresh.
To get V9 or V10 on your new computer, best option is to use the builtin “Backup and Restore” which creates a dated backup.zip file by default on your “Documents / eM Client” folder which you then copy to your new computer same folder, and then restore that via “Menu / File / Restore”. See the eM Client blog page below.

If you have purchased a Personal 3 device license then eM Client should then just work on your new computer. However if it wants the activation key, then go to “Menu / Help / License” and enter your 3 device license key and activate it. But it should be already activated.
Clearly I am running into self inflicted installation wounds.
I just installed the latest eMClient version 9 on my laptop and it is working fine. Now, if I want to update to version 10, what would be the simplest way? I could not find a Restore function and when I access License, the only options are to Deactivate or Close. If I select Update, I’m told there is no update.
Thanks in advance.

To update to version 10, reccomend to go to release history page and download and install the latest version. That will also upgrade your current version.
Note:- As advised previously, before upgrading backup eM Client first via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason, and close eM Client before upgrading.
If you previously purchased V9 "with “lifetime upgrades” then V10 will continue without re-activation after upgrade.
If you have just purchased V10 then “after upgrading” you will need to enter your V10; activation key via “Menu / Help / License”.

The Restore option is via “Menu / File / Restore”.
As before, thank you.
Version 10 is now installed on laptop and seems to be working perfectly.
What I eventually did was Deactivate ver 9 and then entered the Activation key for ver 10.
Now, do I have to enter the display settings again (appearance, etc, that are now on the desktop), or is there a file(s) that I can copy onto the laptop from the deskdstop. I can work with either, but copying files would make life a whole lot easier.
Thanks again. Glad there are people like you who patiently help the less informed.

If you are referring to the Windows or Mac OS desktop display / appearance settings, then yes you would normally have to manually set those on your new laptop if they are not how you like it.
eM Client will automatically adjust to whatever resolution / size you set your laptop display resolution too.
(How to set display resolution Windows)
(How to set display resolution Mac)
Was referring to internal eMClient display settings such as columnar configurations and fonts, as well as contact, templates and signatures.
The best way to keep all the same settings including accounts etc as the first computer onto the second computer, is to use the built-in backup and restore on your first computer via “Menu / Backup” , which creates a dated backup zip file by default in your “Documents / eM Client” folder.
You then copy that dated backup zip file to your second computer same “Documents / eM Client” folder and then restore via “Menu / File / Restore”. So as long as both computers have the same eM Client version it will work fine.
eM Client blog page on the above backup and restore with screenshota for PC and Mac.
Alternatively if you already have setup your mail accounts and just want the Settings, you could optionally, just manually export the Settings via “Menu / File / Export” on the first computer and then copy the exported Settings file to your new computer and then import that via “Menu / File / Import”. Again as long as you have the same version of eM Client then that will also work fine.
