Hi,
eM Client fails every time I try to import from Postbox.
What can I do?
Import from Postbox fails with System.OutOfMemoryException
What version of eM Client do you have ? Also do you have Windows or Mac and what OS ver ?
eM Client: 10.1.4417 (c2d4b18)
Windows: Win10 22H2 (Build 19045.5011)
eM Client: 10.1.4417 (c2d4b18)
Windows: Win10 22H2 (Build 19045.5011).
Ok so you have a very recent version of eM Client that had an updated postbox importer in V10.1.4411 so that should be ok.
Googling “System.OutOfMemoryException” errors that problem can occur when eg: some process such as loading huge data to memory stream, and the computer memory carnt store that amount of data so it gives memory exception.
So could be you have a eg: massive postbox mail database that the computer carnt handle in resident memory or temporary diskspace when importing from postbox, so just crashes and throws up that memory exception error.
So try completely clearing your “Windows temp folder” and then try the import process again. As could possibly be a problem with your Windows temporary folder and needs cleaning out.
To clear your Windows temp folder, close all your open programs and then, click “Start / Run” or click in taskbar “Search field” & type %temp% and enter. Then Select all files and delete and confirm deletion by clicking Yes in the User Account Control prompt that appears. You might need to click delete a few times. Then reboot your computer once cleared and try importing again.
Failing that try disabling “all non OS user startup related background tasks” other than the basic Windows OS startup stuff and reboot and see if that will then import, incase it’s a memory resident problem & is eg: running out when importing.
If that still has the same problem, “close eM Client” and download the latest interim update V10.1.4588 via the release history page and install that and see if that fixes the problem.
if it still fails with that same error, then If you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account, just to to “Menu / Accounts” and add your account via the “automatic account wizard” at the top or manual setup via “add account / mail / other” , where then all your emails, contacts, etc will then come back from the mail server end. So will then avoid you importing from postbox.
If you have a POP account, you might then have to eg: export Postbox to either a.mbox file or .eml files to a folder, and then manually setup your POP account in eM Client via “Add account / mail / other”. Then import your exported .mbox or .eml files to eM Client via “Menu / File / Import”. But hopefully you don’t have to resort to manually doing that and it can be automatically done.
Lastly if you just purchased eM Client, you can also go to the following eM Client VIP support page and login at the top left and lodge a support ticket and an assigned engineer will assist you.
That seems to be a bug. There was not even a memory spike, just a few 100 MB.
Just the complete import crashes (all accounts and local folders altogether)
Then the local folders (which are around 50 GB) were separately imported without any cpu or memory-usage. It just took 1-2 hours.
After that I imported all the accounts. Worked, too.
