IMAP 'Spam' folder not syncing, others work fine

I run my own mail server, Surgemail version 6.9c-1 so maybe this will be easier to solve.
After filtering by RBL and SURBL, it assigns points, like spam assassin. Mail that exceeds x number of points is dropped in a “spam” imap folder. Mail that doesn’t goes into the Inbox. I have the number setting way low, probably too low, so sometimes I get false positives, maybe one a week.

I have two accounts set up in EmClient and neither of them will sync the “spam” folder unless I “repair” the folder.  All the other folders sync fine. No error messages and the log is unremarkable.

There is a lot of stuff in the server imap server log that I don’t understand (I tend to learn the email server as I go and I’ve been learning since 1997). I can ask for a translation, but there is nothing that pops out at me, like an error message. No errors is the server log that pertains to this.

I have an IMAP client on my Android phone and in the interest of science I turned on the spam folder. Works fine there.

Am I missing a client setting? Since it inserts a lot of flags, maybe my server is putting a flag on the message the client doesn’t like?

Hello Eric, not completely sure if I follow, is this a private server hosted on somebody’s service or do you run the mail server at home? Are you using an IMAP account with eM Client? Can you check your default folder settings if the Junk folder is mapped to one of your folders?

Is the folder synchronised in the folder list, but empty or what is the content of the Junk folder?

Regards,

This is a mail server hosted by me at home. I have been hosting my own server at home since 1997.

I’m using IMAP. The Junk email folder is there, but goes unused. The “Spam” folder is created by the server and that is where spam (as decided by the point system) goes. It isn’t blank, but it doesn’t sync new items.

I have a web interface on the server and I can see new items in the spam folder there, but they never get into the eMclient spam folder unless I “Repair” through the properties tab, the spam folder – this clears the folder and forces a redownload – and then I can see the new items.

Additionally, my Android email client syncs properly with the spam folder.

To “educate” my server, I forward the mistakenly labeled messages to special addresses in my domain, where they are automagically read and, in theory, improve the scoring.

I’m going to paste in the header and what else the server inserts into a spam message. Maybe something you see there will help you.

Hello Eric, if the folder syncs after using the “Repair” option, please navigate to Tools > Settings > Advanced and enable IMAP logging for the problematic account, save the settings and replicate the issue, once you notice your spam folder is not being updated, please perform the repair option and restart eM Client, once the resynchronisation of your spam folder is finished.

Please submit the logging data to us after you reopen the application in Tools > Settings > Advanced using the “Send logs” button, however please submit the data to my work mail [email protected] unless you’re a PRO a license user with access to the priority support at [email protected], and include a reference link to this forum topic.

Thank you,
