Hi, is it possible to select which IMAP folders you see / are synced in mail?
The easiest way is to disable the folders from syncing on the server. See if your provider has an option to do that. Gmail allows that here in the webmail setting:

I’m using iCloud - I don’t think there’s such an option? I am presuming this is the cause of my issue, as I’ve have endless folders and thousands of emails in them. The issue is I’m constantly getting the whirling circle next to the iCloud account in the mail sidebar?

I would then ask Apple iCloud technical support via phone or their forum if they can restrict specific mail folders on the server end for you manually if no gui option in the mailbox.
