I installed EM today as an alternative for Outlook and Im having some trouble syncing email. My current outlook works fine, no sync trouble at all, my phone also handles imap to the same accounts just fine but EM consistently gets the errors below :

currently the only email in my boxes is stuff imported from outlook, it has not been able to get anything else (all setup to use IMAP). This is a big problem.
I’ve left it running for about 10 hours now but still no new messages.
Any ideas?

I have whatever version is current as of today (6.something)
think I solved it. Didnt get any warnings or anything like that but seems turning off the firewall helped. Will need to test further though.
suggest a pop up during install to remind users to do this. Im by no means a novice and I didnt expect it to be blocked. None of the other email clients I installed (6 or so) have had this trouble, oddly.
Despite adding an allow rule in my AVG firewall Im still getting imap errors unless the entire AVG package is turned off (firewall+anti virus). Any help would be appreciated.
Hello Barny, what mail service are you using with eM Client? Can you please check the exact release number of your eM Client in Help > About?
Unfortunately some of the application abilities can be affected by antivirus/firewall software that can occasionally disable access to the server by blocking certain protocols. Make sure you’re using a secure connection and that the ports setup in your account settings are open for use with eM Client or your computer.

Im well versed in how firewalls and anti viruses work. And I’ve been using email for 15 years +. Outlook does not have this problem at all so its not pc related, or a problem that affects all email. It only affects EM.
By turning off Spam checking, and email scanning, EM can use imap just fine. The firewall has an allow rule for EM as well.
So as long as no one sends me a virus, I now have it working as it should. Not ideal though and never had this issue before and I’ve tried outlook express, outlook, thunderbird inky and numerous others.
Trying to find a replacement for Outlook is a nightmare, theres nothing at all that works just like Outlook. I thought I had found it with EM but this issue, plus the lack of conversation view is a real pain.
