iCloud contacts moved(!) to local

Hi all, I’m evaluating to move 20+ years of data from Outlook365 to eM Client. I added an iCloud account to sync contacts (and calenders). But suddenly somehow all contacts were MOVED from iCloud to local folder, instead of being synced only → iCloud contacts were ERASED on icloud.com and subsequently iPhone/iPad/Mac, panic!
I revoked the app pw, deleted the acc in eM Client and was able to restore my contacts in iCloud via backup. Phew …
I’m quite sure to not have actively issued a move command. And now I hesitate to add those contacts again. Anybody experiendced same? Any explanation? Thanks in advance.

Adding an Apple iCloud account doesn’t normally sync iCloud contacts to Local contacts and also doesn’t normally erase your iCloud contatcs. That’s very unusual.

iCloud contacts normally appear “under your iCloud account in eM Client Contacts”.

All I can advise is to “follow the eM Client webpage blog extract below” on how to set up an iCloud account in eM Client.

“How to set up iCloud account in eM Client”

Simply create an app-specific password just for eM Client. You can find instructions in the official Apple guide.

Step-by-step instructions on iCloud account setup in eM Client can be also found on our web page eM Client with iCloud.

Also see the following eM Client Blog page

“Synchronize Your iCloud Account with eM Client”

Lastly if following the wizard / blog still doesn’t work and does the same thing, “and you have only just installed eM Client” then email [email protected] for initial assistance inside 30days.

Hi cyberzork, thanks for the quick reply. I did exactly as per RTFM, not my first rodeo  And initially it checked out well with this account (Cal+Con, no Email). But all of a sudden I noticed the contact numbers changing. I didn’t expect that to happen. As there may oc have been a slight chance of accidental action on my part, would it be at all possible to manually MOVE iCloud contacts from that account to some other?

You can manually move eM Client contacts from any account to any other account within eM Client by “clicking the first contact in the account” and then “holding the shift key” and then while holding the shift key “clicking the last contact” you want to move, which will then select the group of contacts.

Then “right click on the highlighted contacts group” and select “Move to Folder” and then “click on the other account contacts folder” you want to move them to. Lastly click “Refresh” at the top.

That will then start synching those contacts to the other account. You can see when that’s finished in Show Operations via the dropdown next to Refresh
