I have updated to Client 7 but its awful! Need to go back to Client 6!!!!

Correct  one cannot use ver 7 backup to restore ver 6  as the file formats are different

Hi Richard. Thx for info.  Searched through all of the variations of “upgrade to version 7 sucks” and “how to revert to version 6” posts (hey eMClient, maybe good reason why so many?  Duhhhhhh!!), and the info posted by you and lots of others was rather helpful.  I HAD requested that the data be saved, but did a file export from version 7 also – just in case.  Then I used Windows to uninstall Version 7, followed by downloading and installing the latest version 6.  Lo and behold, all my data, rules, settings, etc, etc are there, and send/receive works perfectly.  12,6xx emails saved, cost TWO HOURS and MAJOR STRESS!!  :((   And never EVER will I allow eMClient to do an upgrade on me … they’ve just proved THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED!!  Starting search for new email client right now.

I like version 7  and have no reason to search for another   it did take me a little while to get used to the conversational mode (turned it off) and missing folders but I managed.  It is the best client unless you want to pay Microsoft for Outlook   but it has all of the interfaces for contacts , calendar that I was looking for.  Never found one that had it all.    Being a retired manager of Computer systems (mainframe unix and windows )  I know to always test on a separate machine so I know what i am getting  and always  backup backup and backup again.

Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury of an identical separate machine to test on, although as a retired software specialist (IBM real-time transaction processing systems all over the world) I also backup, backup, backup!  :))  So I knew the worst I could lose was the emails sent/received between yesterday @ 14:20 hrs and now.  What just totally grinds my gears is the DECEPTIVE lack of notification that this wasn’t just a minor update, but a major upgrade to a new version that is completely INCOMPATIBLE.  And obviously below par, based upon what I just experienced.  If I wanted that sort of cr@p I would revert to using software from the sewer scum in Redmond.  Of course, mileage may vary … glad it works for you.

Some one ask what  backup format before migrating   In emclient under the Menu File  one will find the emclient’s backup process  it creates a special zip file that it can use to restore itself back to the last good position  provided the backup was created by the same version as the one you are restoring it to.    Under the same Menu file  is a restore menu that takes this bacvkup and restores  but this is version specific    ver 6  does any version 6  and version does version 7
In my restore process step E  is replaced with the restore
Menu-File-restore       when prompted make sure it select the one you what to restore from

Well, maybe I should give version 7 more time.  I agree, EmClient is almost better than Outlook.  Once I had it all set-up, it was less buggy than Outlook.  And, you can’t beat the price.

That may have  been me then I deleted it after seeing more of your responses in my spam folder and figured I’d find the answer there. Do not know why 80% of these messages hit spam while some don’t.

I  had  never paid attention to the backup option under File, and thought it was an export we’d use. But then you have to cherry pick all the folders  to export and it’s tedious and time consuming. This is good to know, and while no immediate plans to move to 7, a full backup is probably prudent from time to time.

Does this backup only data or accounts and settings also?

Thanks for being so helpful here!

I believe it does everything except your license number. I have used it to restore to a new machine

Setting up auto backups

Menu - tools- settings-General-backups      Mine is set to every 2 weeks  to a folder of my choice.
Mine is set to c:\data\emclient_Backups     so they are easy to find as I do not like the document folders

I use Archiving (every 180 days  )  so my gmail acct does not get too big  so by backups are very important as they also contain the archived data that reside on my pc.  .

Menu-Tools-settings-mail-Automatic_archiving

So…how do you browse archives to find a given old email? Can you do a search?  Or, do you have to do a restore to see it again.

When you archive  the emails are MOVED from gmail Folder to a folder on emclient   called Archive
Under this folder one will find the same folder structure as your normal account.  To search one can just select the archive folder or one of the sub folders and search  (all in emclient  )  except this folder is on your machine not gmail.    (backups are required incase you need to restore.
The archive folder is not created until email is archived.  I now have 6 months on gmail and 5 years on my pc. in the archive folder all under emclient  Use the help screen for more info

Ex    Richie
           sent
           inbox

        Archive
             richie
                 sent
                 inbox

Now if no email in a folder is to be archived (not old enough)  the archive Folder will not be created , but it does then it creates a mirror image of your gmail structure
This is similar to a Local Folder just called Archive.  One can pick which account is to be archived or not.  Account level

Hello ejp,

You can see your archived e-mails in the Local Folders - Archive (if you don’t see them at the moment, please turn them on in Menu ->Tools -> Settings -> General -> General - ‘Show local folders’). If you use the ‘Move to Archive’ button on Gmail, your e-mails are now in the ‘All Mail’ folder without the original labels. In both cases, you can still search them.

Hello everybody,

We’re sorry for any inconvenience that the update might have caused for you, I’ll try to address the issues raised in this thread. If your issue persists, I’d please ask you to create a separate thread for talking about it so it’s easier to navigate for us, as well as other users looking for solutions.

• We do realize that the Automatic backup is currently not convenient, which is why it will be possible to perform it while eM Client runs in the 7.1 version. The backups keep all of your data, including the settings.

• If your program’s e-mail counter displays the wrong number of e-mails or some of your old e-mails suddenly appeared, could you please try the following steps?
Turn Conversations off (Menu -> View -> Conversations -> Disable Conversations)
Turn eM Client off
Go to eM Client’s installation folder (something like C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client) and run DbRepair.exe (not the DbRepair.exe.config). Wait until the database check is completed.
Turn eM Client on

• We’re sorry if you aren’t happy with version 7, but we’ll of course help you with the downgrade. For going back to the old version it is necessary to uninstall version 7 and re-install version 6 (available from http://www.emclient.com/release-history)). If you haven’t deleted the version 6 database during the installation of version 7, you don’t have to do anything else.
If you have deleted the database, it will be necessary to deal with the change of the database structure between version 6 and 7:
Do you have any data stored locally or do you have it on the server? If you have all your data on the server, we would recommend starting with a new database after the re-installation of version 6. If eM Client can’t find the database folder in the default location (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming) with the default name (‘eM Client’), it will create a new one. In order to start with a new database, simply turn eM Client off and rename the ‘eM Client’ folder to e.g. ‘eM Client old database’. Please do note that starting with a new database will reset your program settings.
If you have some locally stored data, you will unfortunately need to Export this data from version 7 through Menu ->File ->‘Export…’ function into universal formats (such as .eml for e-mails), that can then be imported into version 6 through File -> ‘Import…’

Maurice

???

I tried version 7 and it either takes so long to open or won’t open/run at all.  I uninstalled it using Ccleaner.  I installed version 6 and now it won’t run/open.  I did have it open once before.  Now I’m regretting that I tried to upgrade.  I wasn’t having any issues before the upgrade.

Using ccleaner is not recommended  In my previous comments uses the normal Windows un install process then  make sure the folder that did contain ver 7 files is erased before installing ver 6 .I also explain where to find it  on my machine ist at
C:\Users\Richard\AppData\Roaming\eM Client   where Richard is my id

The web site for versions is  http://www.emclient.com/release-history      Note no ) at the end

Thank you!  I am up and running on version 6.

Now use its backup facility
The only thing that it does not seem to backup is tailored Themes  and license info.
Suggestion  create a folder called c:\software   and under it create folders of your software installs, license info and any other info.  when you need the old stuff it will be there .

Hello. Completely new here.
When you go back to version 6 how do you prevent eM Client from sending always this update reminder? I found a registry hint:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> eM Client for Softmaker ->HighestAllowedVersion: 1. But this doesn’t work anymore with version 6.
