How can I prevent messages I forward on being rejected as spam when they are totally innocuous?
This can happen sometimes when you have a signature automatically added to the message. If you do, disable signatures and see if there is any difference.
Otherwise, you need to contact the sever admin from where the rejection notice is coming from and see if they have blacklisted your email or IP address.
