I’m not using IMAP. I’m using POP3. I’m trying to transition from LiveMail
to EM Client. Everything works fine with LiveMail.
With eM Client I have 2 email accounts, one works fine, but my bellsouth account can’t retrieve emails. My internet is with AT&T. Both my email account have to use bellsouth for sending emails and this works fine. I’ve tried checking and unchecking “use identity credentials” and tried the legacy ports on both POP3 and SMTP.
POP3 inbound.att.net outbound.att.net
[****@bellsouth.net]
login using clear text authorization
my server requires authentication
Outgoing SMTP 465
Incoming POP3 995
I’ve tried the diagnostics in eM Client and searching this forum. Mo matter what I try it seems I get the same error message in the log.
1:29:55 AM [****@bellsouth.net] [POP3] MailClient.Accounts.SocketException: Connection failed due to the following reason:
1:29:55 AM “Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.”
I sure hope I can get this to work. I think eM Client will be an excellent replacement for LiveMail
Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Also apart from what @skybat already advised above with the security policy, if you are still using Windows 7 make sure you are using TLS1.2 or it will usually also give you that error. If you have Windows 10 or 11 then that’s already built in.
Other reasons you can sometimes get that Unable to read data from the transport connection error can be eg: If you are running any optionally installed Firewall / Security programs or optionally installed Antivirus programs or vpns “other than what’s comes default with your os” they can sometimes interfere with authentication. So if you have anything like that try completely disabling to test.
Also some online mail accounts require you to eg: enable third party mail client access. So you might possibly also have something like that in your Bellsouth account that might have to be enabled.
