Hello, I’m noticing some unusual behavior from EmClient – I have version 9.2.2307 (c0b94dc) and I’m using a Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.8.1 (23J30).
I’ve noticed that some downloaded emails disappear right before my eyes, and I can’t figure out why. It happened last week: I could see the email on the web client, but I couldn’t see the same email on EmClient.
Today the issue has gotten worse: I don’t see anything in the inbox, but if I search for the email by sender, I can find it. Same reception date, but it doesn’t appear in the main view. What’s going on? Any ideas?
Thanks.

As you can see all the messages online in webmail but not in eM Client, then could be something has happened to your local eM Client cache or could be a local account problem.
So first if you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account “right click on your Inbox” (or All Mail if it’s a Gmail account) and click “Properties” at the bottom. Then click the “Repair” tab and click Repair. That clears the local cache and will then resync all your server Inbox messages back to eM Client Inbox.
Once the local cache is cleared your messages will just be slower to reread till fully cached.
If clearing the local cache makes no difference then either go to “Menu / Accounts” and remove and readd your account which should then fix it.
Or alternatively if you have been making regular eM Client backups then go to “Menu / File / Restore” and restore a recent dated backup when you know all your messages were there. Any new messages since the restore point will update when eM Client recconects.
Hello,
thank you for your previous reply.
Before proceeding, I need to clarify an important point regarding my setup.
All my email accounts in eM Client are configured as POP3, not IMAP/Exchange/Office365/iCloud.
Because of this:
- The local database contains the only copy of many emails.
- Some messages may no longer exist on the server after being downloaded.
- Using Repair on a POP3 folder, or removing and re-adding the account, could potentially delete my only local copies and cause permanent data loss.
Therefore, I cannot perform the steps you suggested until I fully understand whether they are safe for POP3 accounts.
Could you please clarify the following:
- Is the “Repair” function safe for POP3 accounts?
My understanding is that Repair deletes the local cache and forces a resync from the server — which works for IMAP, but may permanently delete POP3 emails that no longer exist online. - If I remove and re-add a POP3 account, will eM Client delete the locally stored messages?
Since POP3 does not re-download messages that have already been removed from the server, this could cause irreversible data loss. - What is the recommended troubleshooting procedure for POP3 accounts when messages disappear from the main Inbox view but are still found through search?
- Regarding the backup feature:
If I create a full backup of eM Client beforetrying your suggested procedures, will the backup
- save only the emails and settings, or
- will it also include any possible database errors or corruption? In short: can I safely rely on the backup to preserve all my current POP3 messages in case something goes wrong?
Before taking any action, I want to make sure that no data will be lost.
Thank you in advance for your clarification.

Make sure that “you don’t have any current rules setup” to automatically move emails to other non inbox folders" via “Menu / Rules”. You can dblclick the rules to view them. So that can sometimes explain why you can find messages by searching but not in your Inbox.
Also if you have eM Client V10 go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail / Blacklist & Whitelist” and click “Manage Blacklist” at the bottom to make sure you have no blacklist setup moving emails automatically to other folders such as the junkmail or other folder. That can also sometimes explain why you can find messages by searching but not in your Inbox.
The other reason account emails can appear to disappear from the Inbox is eg: If you have Inbox Categories enabled “which is also setup automatically in V10” unless you disable them in the initial installation setup. See the following eM Client blog page on Inbox Categories.
You can disable Categories via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail / Categories”
All my email accounts in eM Client are configured as POP3
If you have a POP account and have lost local messages then you may have some sort of local database corruption or a possibly corrupted account. Unknown. So yes “don’t run the repair”.
What i would recommend “if you have no Rules or Blacklist setup and no Inbox Categories enabled” is to first eg: Create a folder on your desktop called eg: Old Mail and export your current POP messages to that folder via “Menu / File / Export” and select “Export messages to .eml”. Then click next and select your POP account and choose the Old Mail folder and export those messages so “you at least save those messages you have left”.
Or “after creating the Old Mail folder on your desktop”, just manually create the same POP account mail folders within Old Mail and “drag your messages from each folder into the matching folder” on your desktop. Also “if you have any POP mail in Local Folders” at the bottom left of eM Client, also export / save those as well.
Then once you are certain you have exported / saved all your current POP account messages in each folder in Old Mail, then go to “Menu / Accounts” and “remove and re-add your POP account” which will then receive whatever new email you have in your Server Inbox.
Next then either reimport your exported POP messages from Old Mail via “Menu / File / Import” and select Email (.eml) and click next and select your Old Mail folder on the desktop, or you can just “drag your Old Mail .eml messages a group at a time” back into the same mail folders.
Or alternatively as mentioned previously, “if you have been making regular eM Client backups” then go to “Menu / File / Restore” and restore a recent dated backup when you know all your messages were there. Any new messages since the restore point will update in your Inbox when eM Client reconnects.
Lastly once you get all your messages sorted out, then make a manual backup via “Menu / Backup” so you can then easily restore in anything happens in the future. You can also automatic periodic backup if you havent already via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Backup”.
