New to eM Client, looking to sort out all the myriad of emails I’ve stored over the years.
What I’m seeing is that if a friend of mine used to send email as "Jon Doe <[email protected]>"
Then later he started using "Jonathan Doe <[email protected]>" eM Client groups them separately.
This gets worse by far with all the variations in marking “from” names but from the same address.
How can I find a column to sort by <[email protected]> regardless of the from name?
or, can I sort by the mail header smtp.mailfrom ? (that would be almost as good, and doesn’t require parsing every single message)
Would creating a rule to assign a tag to incoming emails from your friend work based on the email address “[email protected]”? Then you can quickly filter to your friend’s messages. It adds a step to view but that might give the same effect as sorting by email address.
Thanks for the reply! Yes if I had a fixed number of addresses, rules would work.
I’m clearing out tons of old emails, and end up with random addresses I need to do a one-time purge of…
Here’s an example… if I could get eM Client to sort by email only, the many variations of overstock promotion emails would be listed as one.
It doesn’t, so I end up copying the email into Gmail’s interface and search/deleting those… (akin to making a rule like you suggested) but it’d be so much nicer if I could sort by some other value in eM Client.

You can sort eM Client “by email address only” just like you can in Gmail online, by specifying the email address “in the search field at the top” in V8, 9 & 10 and selecting All folders. Or you can choose specific account folders to search in via the “Custom” option in the dropdown".
(eM Client V10 search by email address) using the Search Field
You could also create a “Search Folder” with a specific email address, which you can then “click Instantly on the left” in V8, 9 & 10 to bring up all those emails without typing it in the Search field
