how to sort address book on last name rather than first name?

My contacts imported from Thunderbird are sorted on last name (which is what I want). But I can’t get the address book to do the same. How to fix this?

you can select the ‘phone list’ view and sort on the ‘surname’ column.

it can be done even in Custom view, but your answer is helpful as well.
