How to overcome privacy issue when replying to emails

(A solution to this problem is very important for me as I’m a member of a registered NGO.)

I send regular emails to around 20 members of the NGO as bcc, which prevents recipients seeing other members email addresses.

If one of the recipients replies to my email with a query, I reply to them.

If a second recipient replies and I reply, the reply I sent to the first recipient is included. This enables the second recipient to see the reply I sent to the first recipient, which includes their email address.

This problem has been brought to my attention - and needs to be fixed, possibly in one of the email settings?

I have tried to overcome the problem by deleting my reply to the first recipient. But this also deletes my original email to all bcc’d recipients.

I’d appreciate any possible solutions.

Thanks in advance

When you reply to an email, it goes to the sender only. Even if the sender sent it to other recipients, Reply goes to the sender only.

If the sender did include other recipients, they will only get a copy if you use Reply All. That will send your reply to those recipients of that message.

Both Reply and Reply All mean for that message only. They don’t send replies to any of the other messages in the conversation.

Thanks Gary – Don’t think I explained my problem very well.

  1. I Send email 20 recipients all blind cc

  2. One recipient replies to me.

  3. I reply only to that one recipient.

  4. A second recipient replies to me.

  5. I reply only to the second recipient.

  6. But my reply to the second recipient also includes the reply I sent to the first recipient exposing their email address.

The only way your reply to number 1 can be sent to number 2, is if you forward it to number 2, or you reply to your messages sent to number 1 and change the recipient address to number 2.
