My wife and I share the same email account… How do we open an email on one device without it being marked read on the server so that both of us are able to read it? As it stands now, whoever happens to be the first to read an email, prevents the other from accessing it on either mobile device or desktop.
Are you using POP3? Then the message is downloaded to the device and deleted from the server.
If so, you should try IMAP instead, then the messages stay on the server and can be downloaded as often as you like.
Thanks for the response. I am using IMAP. My emails do remain on the server, but that’s not the problem. I should explain that I’ve created a rule for each of our desktop eM clients that copies new messages to a local folder (see below). The idea is that we each access new messages in this local folder via the desktop eM and we are able to view, delete, reply to, etc each email within the local folder without affecting the others access. However, when the mobile eM opens a new message before the desktop version has a chance, the rule fails. I believe that this is because the message has been marked as read on the server.
Our goal is to use eM client on both his and her laptops and both his and her Android phones in such a way that opening new messages on one device does not affect access from any of the other devices. Therefore, we would somehow like to open and read new messages on mobile version without causing the rule to fail on desktop version. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks again
Rule:
After message has been received
received using Server1
make a copy to Inbox1
and stop processing other rules
except from ‘kd4pii’
