Is it possible to create just a simple local folder in Mail for archiving emails that is not attached to any of the email accounts?
I know that I can enable “Local Folders” in Settings, but that creates unwanted Inbox, Outbox etc, and creates it also in the Calendar and Contacts that I don’t need.
You can either use Manual archiving to move old messages to an archive folder within your eg: Server based mail account or use Automatic archiving to move old messages to a local archive folder within your Local folders as per the eM Client documentation. See the links below.
Apart from that you could also eg: Create a folder on your Desktop or Documents etc called Old Mail or whatever you like and then just drag any old messages or message folders into that. All the messages then will be in .eml format which can then can be opened in eM Client or if you want be dragged back in later as well.
Thanks for the reply.
I don’t really like the included archiving features. I don’t have that many important emails, but when I do I like to drag them manually into the relevant folder/subfolder I have crated under the account.
But now I want to move all that out of the account, and have it “independent” of any account.
So the “Local Folders” featyre would suit me, except that it has the Inbox, Outbox etc stuff that I don’t need.
Is it possible to somehow delete those folders?
I know I can hide them, but it still leaves the “More” at the bottom.
It is not a major issue for me, I can live with it, but if they could be deleted, please let me know how.

Then just create a folder within Local Folders called eg: Old Mail and then drag whatever messages or messages folders you want under that. If you have more than one Mail account you want to store old Mail, then create another folder within Local Folders called eg: Old Mail 1.
You don’t have to use the existing Local Folders Inbox, Outbox etc to store your old stuff in.
Note:- Remember to if you do store old messages anywhere in Local folders, backup regularly either Manually via “Menu / Backup” (PC) or “File / Backup” (Mac). Or go to “Menu / Settings / General / Backup” (PC) or “eM Client / Preferences / General / Backup” (Mac) and setup Automatic periodic backups" which is the preferred.
You misunderstand what I want -
I want to delete the Inbox, Outbox etc - they pollute the landscape in the “Local Folders” house.
Never mind - I doubt it can be done, I am just trying.
Regarding backing up - So if I stored my important messages in folders created inside an email account, as I do now, how often is the content of those folders backed up ?
Unfortunately you can’t delete those folders as some of them are used by the system. The Local Folder Outbox for example is where your outgoing messages are temporarily stored while they are being uploaded to the server.
As @cyberzork recommended, just hide them if you don’t want to see them.

If you setup the automatic periodic backup, you specify the days interval when you want it to backup. It’s completely customizable.
Eg: I set my eM Client automatic periodic backup to “backup everyday” and “preserve the last three backups”.
See the following eM Client link for how to setup the automatic periodic email backups.
You need to enable and run automatic archiving once. It needs to move at least one email to the Archive which will cause the Archive folders to show below the Local Folders. Then disable automatic archiving again. The Archive folder will remain there. Any messages that were moved from your server folders to the Archive, you can move back to their original position.
You can then add you own folders to the Archive section and delete any you don’t want. If the Trash folder shows up, just empty it and it will not appear again until you delete some content from the Archive.
I have done set up the automatic archiving, and initiated it manually.
It did create the Archive folder and I could delete the archived emails and create new folders.
However, as you can see, on the picture below, the “More” item is still there with all the folders in it, and can’t be deleted.
Looks like there is no way to get rid of it. Never mind, it is not a major issue.
Move the items you want to the Archive and disable Local Folders. To disable Local Folders untick the option in Menu > Settings > General > General > Show Local Folders.
