How do themes impact message font colors?

After using the native “dark” theme for some time, I modified it to create my own theme, making use of darker backgrounds. Now, some fonts in HTML email messages are also darker.

But why is this? The font color doesn’t seem to be configurable in the theme itself. Is there a way to change the font color while keeping the darker background color?

For example, the “Your Balance Summary” text in this email message:

lunes 02 diciembre 2024 :: 2102hrs (UTC +0100)

You can correct this by going to:
Menu ->Settings ->Read ->Preferred style ->Preferred text color
THEN
Uncheck ->Use color from theme ->Check color specified (that you can choose)
Repeat this for Bacground color.
I suggest you use Black for text & White for background or you will continue
to have this issue because you cannot contrpl html of incoming messages.

Thanks. I was aware of those settings, and had “Use color from theme” selected for both, but I’m still confused, because I’m not seeing a color in the theme that I can set to influence this setting. I’m guessing it’s there but not in an obvious place.

I mean, clearly changes made to a theme can impact the font color, because I changed the dark theme and see exactly that, as shown in my first post. But what changes?

Or maybe the font color simply changes relative to the mail background color.

You can see in this image two buttons on the right,
these allow you to select your color.
It’s in Spanish but wou will understand.
(cambiar is Spanish for Change)
If you do this do not forget to Appy then Save & Close

Thanks, but we’re not understanding each other. But it’s OK as I’ve figured out the answer to my question:

Theme editor > Special controls > Messages > MailBackground

When you make “MailBackground” darker or lighter, certain fonts in HTML messages are automatically made darker or lighter as a result, if you also have:

Settings > Mail > Read > Preferred Style > Preferred background color

…set to “Use color from theme”. And if you have “Preferred background color” set to “Use color from theme”, then the “Preferred text color” has no effect.

So basically, in order to have the extra-dark message background, I’m going to have to live with the darker fonts.

Thanks for trying to help!
