how would i share the em client calendar data over a network, and can multiple users access and change data realtime
If nobody answers, I guess you could copy the entire folder containing the database files to a network drive (you can find the folder by going into Settings/Storage in eM Cient).
After copying the folder, point eM Client to the network storage location and see if you can access eM Client from two or more PCs at the same time.
Before experimenting be sure to retain the original folder in its original location. Simultaneous access might perhaps damage or lock the files so it is better to be prudent.
you will need access to CalDAV/CardDAV server like Apple, IceWarp, Sun, Oracle, Kerio etc.
Currently we are working on a service for our customers that is going to target this. As a user you will obtain server account on which your groupware (contacts, events, tasks) data can be stored and you will be able to synchronize them with mobile devices too. We plan to start this service in a few weeks.
Hope this will help.
How can we be notified with a sync capability is established? I’m a Droid Eris user - this is why I need the sync with google - for now, I can’t access my calendar remotely with eM Client
Did this synchronizing dream ever come true? I want it for my email more than the calendar, and don’t even really care about Droid or anything–I just want to be able to access and use the same email (and sure, calendar) from my other computer across the room, without creating redundant, unmatching databases.
I am not sure what do you mention, but for example if you use gmail over IMAP then your calendar, emails and contacts are shared between all eM Client installations.
I don’t use Gmail. I have regular POP email accounts.
POP3 does not support synchronization as it is designed to be email protocol only.
So this is technically impossible.
best solution for you will be switch to IMAP protocol.
OK fine, I don’t really care what protocol I use. Is there a guide somewhere explaining how I can share/synchronize my email and other stuff between two or more computers via emClient?
Try to look at support section of your email account provider, it is possible that they does not support anything other than POP3 at all.
That doesn’t really answer my question:
Is there a guide somewhere explaining how I can share/synchronize my email and other stuff between two or more computers via emClient?
Email is shared automatically, if you use POP3 it might get deleted when downloaded but that depends on how you set up your client or server.
for anything else like contacts or calendar you can use CalDAV/CardDAV or Gdata.
So all the folders that I have my mail sorted into locally here will be shared automatically on another computer without me having to do anything? That sounds improbable, but OK. “CalDAV/CardDAV or Gdata” means absolutely nothing to me, but you seem committed to answering as though I already know all this stuff, so I guess I’m going to drop it. Thanks anyway.
you can setup all sharing same as setting up new account, that is Tools - new accounts - and there you choose in Calendar, Contacts etc what service you want to use.
and POP3 works that way - it is designed to download all messages from server and delete them on it after, but modern clients supports option that user wants to keep copy there while IMAP only connects to server, download headers and only after request it shows copy for the user in his client.
