You first “add your account” using either the automatic account wizard or manual setup depending on your specific mailbox server.
If you are getting an invalid email address when adding your domain account with either the automatic account wizard or manual setup (add account / mail other", then first “check your domain email address is working via your webmail in a browser” as could be that it’s eg: become deactivated at your mailbox server end so then fails in eM Client. So check it’s working.
Then once added, “activate eM Client” (if you downloaded eM Client from the website).
Finally “once the account is receiving mail”, then Import your .mbox file via “Menu / File / Import”.
But the setup demands an email address and rejects a dummy.
You don’t put a dummy email address to import
Note: eM Client V9 may not work correctly anymore on Windows 7 “due to the OS is so old” and “no longer supported by Microsoft or eM Client”. So reccomend you upgrade Windows.
Note: You should really be now running minimum Windows 10 “for security reasons”, which is also still supported by Microsoft till Oct 2025 & is also currently still supported by eM Client.

How please? I see no way of doing that without adding an email account.

No need, since invalid address is intentional. It is a dummy address attempting to workaround the demand for an email address.

Which is the latest version for Windows 7 please? I thought V9, but can find no system requirements for past versions on the web.

Windows 7 is fine for me thanks.

Do you have an existing working account “already setup” in eM Client ?
If you haven’t already got a mail account setup in eM Client, then you need to “add one first” as I advised previously, and then once the account is added in, then import your .mbox file messages into your existing mail account via the following method as per the eM Client online documentation.
Now if you don’t have an existing account already setup and you don’t want to add an account first, then you can try just importing your .mbox file messages into eM Client “Local Folders” at the bottom left. That may or may not work, as normally you import those into an existing mail acct.
No, obviously. The question is “How can I install eM Client V9 for Windows 7 without giving an email account?”
The question is “How can I install eM Client V9 for Windows 7 without giving an email account?”
Install eM Client and then when you first open the mail client " Skip / Cancel the initial setup wizard" which will then just open eM Client without any accounts.
If you carn’t skip / cancel the initial setup account wizard then could be “you might need to go back” to eg: eM Client V8 or eM Client V7, which you can download via the release history page.
Also if you go back to older versions delete the database on the uninstall wizard when asked.
Install eM Client and then when you first open the mail client " Skip / Cancel the initial setup wizard"
There’s no such option on this V9:

Thanks. Anyone know the most recent Windows7-compatible version that solves this problem? I find no reference to either in the release history. Thanks.
Just close the set up account window (cross icon on the top left corner)
Thanks. I switched to V10 which doesn’t have this issue.
