I successfully changed my Gmail password and have used the new password to log into gmail webmail, so no errors in keying the password. But emclient no longer works, keeps asking me for a password and not accepting the old one or the new one. This is POP account. How can I get emclient to work now for gmail? It worked fine before I changed the password itself. I did change the password of record to the new one in emclient Accounts, and Saved. But no progress.
You can no longer use Gmail POP accounts with eM Client as per the eM Client blog article below in 2022, that is now completed at Google as of September 30th 2024, where you need to “change to an IMAP Gmail account”.and move all your existing POP mail and any custom POP mail folders into the new IMAP Gmail account.
See further down this thread how to do that. I’ve also done that with all my old POP Gmail accts.
(Google ‘less secure apps’ access and what it means for eM Client)
(Less secure apps & your Google Account)
(To change from Gmail POP acct to IMAP acct)
Go to “Menu / Accounts” , and click Add account using the “automatic email wizard” at the top and enter your Gmail address and follow the prompts. Make sure to click allow at the end to give eM Client access to your Google account. In V10 you can also now choose / allow specific access options like eg: if you only want Mail access and not your Google Calendar or Google Drive etc.
Next once you have added your IMAP account, then drag / move all your existing POP mail and mail folders to your new IMAP account folders.
After you move them, eM Client will then start syncing / uploading those messages & folders to your IMAP account on the server which will then be available on all your devices once completed. You can view the uploading progress via clicking “Show Operations” in the dropdown “on the right of the Refresh button” at the top left.
Lastly once you are certain all your messages and message folders are in your IMAP account, then go back to “Menu / Accounts” and remove your old POP account.
Note: The best way I find to dblcheck all your messages are 100% all in your IMAP account, is to go online to your webmail once completed.
Note: Before doing anything, make a backup of eM Client just incase you need to restore for any reason. “Menu / Backup” (Pc) or “File / Backup” (Mac). You can also see when the backup is complete via clicking “Show Operations” in the dropdown on the right of Refresh at the top
