I would like to bring EmClient with me, but lacking a dedicated port - has anyone got the Mac version to run maybe?
From reading around the forum, the Win version on WINE isn’t great.
But I wonder if the Mac version would work somehow? If so… any guides out there?
I’ve not heard of anyone on this forum running eM Client for Mac on Linux. Its also not supported at all by the company and no plans at this stage for any eM Client version on Linux.
There is however an upcoming Chrome book version coming soon as @Michal_Burger advised in a thread last year.
I wonder if the ChromeBook one could run in a “smaller” virtual machine to windows… That would be good.
The whole point in moving to Linux was to get rid of the resource hog that Windows is.
That and the tracking and other BS that Microsoft are doing now.
The AI built into everything…
ChromeOS cannot be directly run as a virtual machine within a eg: VirtualBox on Linux as ChromeOS is designed to run on specific hardware and doesn’t support running in a virtualized environment due to its architecture and boot process.
ChromeOS is tightly integrated with the hardware it runs on, including the bootloader, kernel, and other system components. These are not designed to work within a generic virtual machine environment.
So you would need to buy a Chromebook to run eM Client when it’s released.
I personally just got a cheap second hand M1 Mini Mac and now run eM Client on Mac with my old same PC Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse.
So you use Linux and Mac at the same time? Or only the mini mac ?
I currently use the Mini Mac with Windows 11 running in Parallels in a window so I can still test eM Client Windows versions as well as Mac. But I also test many Linux versions on another one of my older PC’s.
Yes Linux Mint is also one of my fav Linux builds but I prefer using the Mac OS compared to Windows or Linux. 99% of my friends have also now switched to Mac and also run eM Client. Most of my friends find Linux just to difficult to use.
The Mac OS reminds me of the earlier NextStep by Steve Jobs RIP which I also used for years. I still also have a colour NextStep cube. Luv it.
