Several times a day eM client will hang trying to sync with my gmail account. When I look at the current operation it just sits on “Synchronizing Subfolders”. It doesn’t matter how long I let it sit there, it could be minutes or hours, nothing changes. The only way to fix it is to close eM client and restart it. When I restart it’ll sync fine and download any messages that weren’t showing before. It’s extremely frustrating having to close/relaunch a program several times a day.
Otherwise it works great, but this one issue is a dealbreaker if it can’t be resolved. Please help.
Hi Patrick, what version of eM Client are you currently using? Do you receive any errors from the application?
Thank you,
Paul.
Hi Paul. I am using 6.0.20563.0 which I found on here. It was doing the same thing with the previous version I had (don’t recall which one that was). I do not receive any errors, it just sits there forever trying to sync the folders. I’ve literally walked away from the computer for a couple hours and come back to it still sitting there trying to sync
Hi Patrick, please try to update your client to this version (http://www.emclient.com/dist/v6.0.20619/setup.msi), that might help the issue.
Let me know if the problem persists.
Thank you,
Paul.
Thanks. Just installed it. I’ll keep you posted.
Ok, I’ve been running the new version all day. I can say that while this version is greatly improved over the old one, it is not completely fixed…
With both versions it seems as though the issues got worse as the day progressed, perhaps as traffic increased or something. Previously it would work fine for the first hour or two of the day, and then started experiencing the hanging on sync issues. With this new version it seemed to work fine for several hours and then started exhibiting the same symptoms as before. As before, the only solution seems to be closing/restarting eM client.
One additional note. I don’t know if this is related, but it hadn’t happened previously so I felt it was worth mentioning. This afternoon at one point I experience an issuing trying to connect to the Gmail IMAP server via eM client. It was giving me an error stating the server was unavailable. Performing diagnostics did nothing. There were no issues with SMTP and I was able to send messages fine, just not receive. I closed and restarted eM client several times and immediately was presented with the same error. The only thing that seemed to resolve it was a full restart of the computer (perhaps a cached process in the background or something?). After I restarted, the IMAP server error went away, but shortly after that I started experiencing the hanging issue on sync again.
I should note that this entire time, I was able to connect & sync with the IMAP server with other email applications, both on my android phone and on the same PC. It’s only eM client that exhibits the problems. That’s how I know it’s not an actual server issue, but a client one.
Please advise. While the new version is an improvement, it hasn’t resolved the issue completely. Thank you
Hi again, are you using any firewall/proxy/antivirus software on your computer?
When the synchronization get’s stuck, can you please download this tool (http://www.emclient.com/tools/emstackdump.exe), and run it while it’s stuck.
It will generate a dump file, telling us more information on what’s going on hopefully.
Please send me the file to [email protected] with a reference link to this forum topic.
Thank you,
Paul.
I am running Norton Antivirus 2014 and the default Windows Firewall (Windows 8.1 64bit). I would find it odd that both applications would allow traffic for most of the day and then all of a sudden start blocking it, especially something as common as an IMAP connection. However if an exception/rule is needed in either please let me know
I’ve downloaded the tool and will run it next time it hangs.
Hi Patrick, it would be worth a try to try turning email protection off in Norton Antivirus (if there’s one, I believe there is), and check if that’s what might be causing this issue.
Thank you,
Paul.
I will give it a shot.
It’s worth noting that I didn’t experience the hang on sync yesterday at all. However when I woke up my PC this morning it immediately had a similar IMAP server error to what I experienced the other day. Restarting eM client resolved that and it’s been running fine so far since then
