Thanks so much for resolving the GMail TLS issues, I use several accounts.
I also have a Synology NAS running Mail+ for several URL’s. They are set for POP3 and all use Local Folders. All incoming mail appears in one Inbox (unless diverted by Rules).
However, on updating the GMail accounts through the new Add Account interface, I only get IMAP rather than POP3 as a receive choice. That disallows use of Local Folders and lists the individual GMail Accounts on the Mail folder listing. Is there any way to set (or reinstall) the GMail accounts to use Local Folders or POP3?
The GMail Account names remain on the list display even with all the sub-folders hidden. The move process will not allow moving the ‘special’ Local Folders to the top of the list which would effectively place the GMail Accounts off the display.
On the plus side, all incoming GMail does appear in the Local Folders Inbox.
Here you can see on Youtube how to use setup.
The example is for Outlook but works OK in EMClient, I have done it OK
First you have to make a password with your Gmail account
Save the password to use in EMClient
Next you must setup in EMClient like I show now in EMClient
It is easy to do to start:
Menu/Accounts/Add account/DO NOT USE AUTOMATIC/Click Mail/Next as Below/
Enter Email/Next/Select POP3/
Incoming server enter: pop.gmail.com
User name: your email address
Password: what you got from Gmail and saved before/Click Next
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
eMC tests what you enter - be patient while it checks
Then Continue WITHOUT encryption
Continue to the end following instructions.
At the end of the “Add / Mail / Other” POP setup as @skybat advised above, you will see on the last screen as per the example below, where you can choose to either “Create a separate folder tree for messages” or “Store messages in local folders”. So remember to choose before clicking finish.
This is also the eM Client 9.x new account support url setup link for either the automatic or manual email account setups.
Thanks skybat and cyberzork for the quick reply. Sorry to say it does not work for me. I get ‘credentials rejected’ using either available or force SSL/TLS
Google changed the access protocols for 3rd party email clients about 6 months ago. The account entry works fine on Automatic Setup with the last component opening a browser window to the Google account and asking for the 3rd Party Trust Permission. This does not happen on the ‘Other’ entry path which does not validate the login credentials for POP or SMTP…
I suspect that perhaps Google no longer allows 3rd Party POP or EMClient needs a different protocol to establish trust in the ‘Other’ process as IMAP is now the only choice in GMail Automatic. Also, it might be possible to include ‘Mail’ and ‘Local Folders’ in the folder selections.
Not a biggie for me considering all the other great features.
That is strange and I have to conclude that perhaps you are not doing something correctly.
The Security Policy is: Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)
I have just checked again and was able to setup a Gmail POP3 Account with no issue.
Yes I too can still setup a Gmail account with POP setup using a Gmail “App Password”. How long though Google will allow you to do that is unknown as (they and most other larger mailbox providers) are now mainly pushing / changing to IMAP via the automatic setup with OAuth as per this eM Client Google Workspace blog , but definitely still works atm as @skybat says above.
See the Google support page on how to setup “app passwords”.
Finally had some time to bang on the keyboard. EMClient was shown as a Google authorized 3-rd party app when the Account was established using the Automatic account creation. However, Google does not authorize the passwords using the ‘Other’ account creation mode on that basis alone.
Correct 'O 'Mundo on your advice, I succeeded in the ‘Other’ section by using the Google App Generated Password after turning on 2-Step Authentication. However, the Account fails if 2SA is subsequently turned off.
Win a battle, lose the war. Just a bit too much aggravation for me to use 2SA for 7 accounts just for mail. I will put up with the superfluous screen display.
Thank you again for the time and assistance.
