Suddenly, over the past few weeks, i’ve been getting more and more errors as eM Client fails to connect to my Hotmail account. The time taken to sync tended to take longer when i happened to be using a VPN. But recently it makes no difference; it takes maybe 10 seconds or so most times. I do have a fair number of mail folders. The latest attempt to sync gave the error:
[IMAP] Cannot open folder “/Junk Email”. (NO Server Unavailable. 15)
Has anyone got any idea why this has started happening and how to fix please?
Update - it’s happening almost every time now:
[IMAP] Cannot open folder “/Trash”. (NO Server Unavailable. 15)
[IMAP] Cannot open folder “/Inbox”. (NO Server Unavailable. 15)
That random error has been happening for only a few Hotmail, Live & Outlook.com accounts which seems to infer a Microsoft Server issue in some parts of the globe.
However to rule out any eM Client local issue, “If you haven’t already tried”, go online to your Microsoft account Privacy / third party apps section, and remove / revoke the eM Client App.
Then in eM Client go to “Menu / Accounts” and remove and re-add your Hotmail account via the Automatic Account Wizard at the top and re-allow eM Client access to your Hotmail account when prompted and see if that fixes the problem.
If it doesn’t fix it, then could be there is a MS Server issue at the moment where you current connect to your Hotmail account in your country and might need to contact Microsoft technical support via their community forum or phone.

Apart from VPN’s sometimes also eg: optionally installed Firewalls / Security programs or optionally installed Antivirus programs can also interfere. So if you have anything like that installed other than the default OS stuff, then try completely disabling this to test as well.
Lastly other reasons might be an eg: Physical IP Address connection issue between you and the Microsoft Server.. So if you haven’t already tried, power off your computer and wifi modem router for say eg: 2 mins and then turn back on and see if that makes any difference just in case its a stale old ip issue if you are using a dynamically assigned ip address.
Thanks for this information. I thought it had been fixed this afternoon after i cleaned out a lot of folders and historic emails that i wasn’t really using. All was working well until this evening; now the problem has returned albeit much less frequently than yesterday. As i typed that last sentence, i got the latest: [IMAP] Cannot open folder “/Private”. (NO Server Unavailable. 15). Interestingly it was around this time last night that the problem first became really prevalent.
I haven’t carried out the revoke method yet as i’m not very tech savvy and i’m really worried about losing stuff or getting locked out (there seems to be quite a lot of that happening according to posts on reddit). It would be a minor disaster for me if i were not able to access this account at all.
I do have a dynamic IP address, but it hasn’t changed in more than a year. I do have MWB installed, but it is restricted to ‘normal’ duties; i don’t have Browser Guard or IP protection activated and i haven’t used their VPN. It’s difficult to test as it has become less frequent again, but it seems unlikely that the problem is being caused by these factors which have been constant for some time.
I think i’ll sit tight for a day or two and hope that it’s a MS problem that they sort out soon. Meanwhile I may contact them as you suggest - do you happen to have the relevant contact details handy? Thanks again for your efforts. I’ll report any significant changes in the situation.
